Abstract

This book gathers 14 of the most promising papers presented at the 18th IEEE/ACIS International Conference on Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Networking and Parallel/Distributed Computing (SNPD 2017), which was held on June 26–28, 2017 in Kanazawa, Japan. Abstract

These proceedings of the SAI Intelligent Systems Conference 2016 (IntelliSys 2016) offer a remarkable collection of chapters on a wide range of topics in intelligent systems, artificial intelligence and their applications to the real world. Authors hailing from 56 countries on 5 continents submitted 404 papers to the conference, attesting to the global importance of the conference’s themes. After being reviewed, 222 papers were accepted for presentation, and 168 were ultimately selected for these proceedings. Each has been reviewed on the basis of its originality, novelty and rigorousness. The papers not only present state-of-the-art methods and valuable experience from researchers in the related research areas; they also outline the field’s future development.

Abstract

This volume of Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing contains accepted papers presented at SOCO 2017, CISIS 2017 and ICEUTE 2017, all conferences held in the beautiful and historic city of León (Spain), in September 2017. Soft computing represents a collection or set of computational techniques in machine learning, computer science and some engineering disciplines, which investigate, simulate, and analyze very complex issues and phenomena.  After a through peer-review process, the 12th SOCO 2017 International Program Committee selected 48 papers which are published in these conference proceedings, and represents an acceptance rate of 45%. In this relevant edition a special emphasis was put on the organization of special sessions. Two special session was organized related to relevant topics as: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Applied to Health Sciences and Soft Computing Methods in Manufacturing and Management Systems. The aim of the 10th CISIS 2017 conference is to offer a meeting opportunity for academic and industry-related researchers belonging to the various, vast communities of Computational Intelligence, Information Security, and Data Mining. The need for intelligent, flexible behaviour by large, complex systems, especially in mission-critical domains, is intended to be the catalyst and the aggregation stimulus for the overall event. One special session was organized related to the relevant topic of Identification, Simulation and Prevention of Security and Privacy Threats in Modern Communication Networks. After a through peer-review process, the CISIS 2017 International Program Committee selected 18 papers which are published in these conference proceedings achieving an acceptance rate of 38%. In the case of 8th ICEUTE 2017, the International Program Committee selected 8 papers, which are published in these conference proceedings.

The conferences were organized by the Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, Department IV of Engineering Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Polish Operational and Systems Research Society in collaboration with the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology (EUSFLAT), the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and various European universities. The aim of the EUSFLAT-2017 was to bring together theoreticians and practitioners working on fuzzy logic, fuzzy systems, soft computing and related areas and to provide a platform for exchanging ideas and discussing the l atest trends and ideas, while the aim of IWIFSGN’2017 was to discuss new developments in extensions of the concept of a fuzzy set, such as an intuitionistic fuzzy set, as well as other concepts, like that of a generalized net. The papers included, written by leading international experts, as well as the special sessions and panel discussions contribute to the development the field, strengthen collaborations and intensify networking.

Abstract

This book contains some selected papers from the International Conference on Extreme Learning Machine 2016, which was held in Singapore, December 13-15, 2016. This conference will provide a forum for academics, researchers and engineers to share and exchange R&D experience on both theoretical studies and practical applications of the ELM technique and brain learning.  Extreme Learning Machines (ELM) aims to break the barriers between the conventional artificial learning techniques and biological learning mechanism. ELM represents a suite of (machine or possibly biological) learning techniques in which hidden neurons need not be tuned. ELM learning theories show that very effective learning algorithms can be derived based on randomly generated hidden neurons (with almost any nonlinear piecewise activation functions), independent of training data and application environments. Increasingly, evidence from neuroscience suggests that similar principles apply in biological learning systems. ELM theories and algorithms argue that “random hidden neurons” capture an essential aspect of biological learning mechanisms as well as the intuitive sense that the efficiency of biological learning need not rely on computing power of neurons. ELM theories thus hint at possible reasons why the brain is more intelligent and effective than current computers. ELM offers significant advantages over conventional neural network learning algorithms such as fast learning speed, ease of implementation, and minimal need for human intervention. ELM also shows potential as a viable alternative technique for large‐scale computing and artificial intelligence. This book covers theories, algorithms ad applications of ELM. It gives readers a glance of the most recent advances of ELM. .
