Magali Haesendonck, 22 januari 2015In 'Boem!' zien we hoe een geweldig kleurrijke kettingbotsing tot stand komt. Op elke dubbele pagina zien we twee knotsgekke auto?s vlak voor een botsing. Zo is er een wagen vol kippen, een krokodil in een auto met autobanden, ? Timmers laat de lezer fantaseren over hoe de wagens eruit zullen zien als ze tegen elkaar terechtkomen en geeft daarna telkens het resultaat weer. Je hebt maar één voorbeeld nodig om door te hebben hoe het systeem in elkaar zit: een dubbele pagina met twee auto?s voor ze botsen, een dubbele pagina waar in het groot ?Boem!? op geschreven staat en vervolgens een linkerpagina met daarop het resultaat. Op de rechterpagina komt de volgende auto al aan...Na één keer ga je dus al [lees meer] handenwringend verder bladeren en zit je op het puntje van je stoel om te zien wat de volgende botsing teweeg zal brengen. Wat ook leuk is, is dat je telkens ook een stukje van de vorige botsing nog meekrijgt. Op het einde krijg je de hele kettingbotsing nog eens te zien onder de vorm van één lange uitklappagina. Erg leuk.Een kleurrijke kettingbotsing, want kleurrijk is Leo?s handelsmerk. Als geen ander weet hij hoe kleuren, soms op het randje van de overdrijving, met elkaar samenwerken tot een explosief geheel. Zijn prenten geven telkens veel enthousiasme en vreugde weer. Het thema van het boekje past ook uitstekend bij Leo Timmers? stijl. Het gebrek aan tekst kan de pret niet bederven, de prenten spreken voor zich!Een kleine bemerking: jammer van het formaat. Het boek is erg klein uitgegeven. De prenten zouden nog beter tot hun recht komen wanneer het boek op zijn minst een A4-formaat had. Ondanks zijn formaat is dit boek een geweldige aanvulling, zeker voor kinderen die houden van auto?s, dieren of ? dieren in auto?s.22 januari 2015© Pluizer40http://www.pluizer.be

This book explores the geography of the everyday roadway and contemplates how regulation and design shape our streets. People may question the hegemony of cars, but reimagining public streets is a major conceptual and technical challenge. Drawing from “new mobilities” and transport studies, Prytherch addresses how streets are structured by policy standards; what it means to have a right to the street; and how a more just street would look—in both theory and practice. He summarizes key traffic statutes, case laws, and engineering manuals, and interprets these in relation to mobility rights and justice. Robotic Sailing 2017. This book contains the peer-reviewed papers presented at the 10th International Robotic Sailing Conference which was organized in conjunction with the 10th World Robotic Sailing Championship held in Horten, Norway the 4th-9th of September 2017. The seven papers cover topics of interest for autonomous robotic sailing which represents some of the most challenging research and development areas. The book is divided into two parts. The first part contains papers which focus on the design of sails and software for the assessment and predication of sailboat performance as well as software platforms and middleware for sailboat competition and research. The second part includes algorithms and strategies for navigation and collision avoidance on local, mid- and long range. The differences in approach in the included papers show that robotic sailing is still an emerging cross-disciplinary science. The multitude of suggestions to the specific problems of prediction and simulation of sailboats as well as the challenges of route planning, anti-grounding and collision avoidance are good indicators of science in its infancy. Hence, we may expect the future to hold great advances for robotic sailing. .

This book proposes a general methodology to introduce Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) integrity, starting from a rigorous mathematical description of the problem. It highlights the major issues that designers need to resolve during the development of GNSS-based systems requiring a certain level of confidence on the position estimates. Although it follows a general approach, the final chapters focus on the application of GNSS integrity to rail transportation, as an example. By describing the main requirements in the context of train position function, one of which is the safe function of any train control system, it shows the critical issues associated with the concept of safe position integrity. In particular, one case study clarifies the key differences between the avionic domain and the railway domain related to the application of GNSS technologies, and identifies a number of railway-signaling hazards linked with the use of such technology. Furthermore, it describes various railway-signaling techniques to mitigate such hazards to prepare readers for the future evolution of train control systems, also based on the GNSS technology. This unique book offers a valuable reference guide for engineers and researchers in the fields of satellite navigation and rail transportation.
