"Dit boek beschrijft op een begrijpelijke manier hoe men de meest voorkomende fotografische en fotomechanische procedés van 1839 tot heden kan herkennen. Het is bedoeld voor iedereen die te maken heeft met historische foto's: werknemers van archieven en musea, kunsthistorici, verzamelaars en ook degenen die oude familiefoto's op een verantwoorde wijze willen bewaren. Kennis van deze procedés is van belang voor het herkennen, dateren, conserveren, rubriceren en eventueel exposeren van allerlei soorten fotomateriaal. Fotograaf en fotohistoricus Jan van Dijk beschrijft niet alleen wanneer en hoe historische procedés, zoals de daguerreotypie, de autochroom, de albuminedruk en vele andere, tot stand zijn gekomen maar hij laat tevens zien hoe men deze procedés kan herkennen en dateren zonder de originele afdruk aan te tasten. Opnamen op glas en kunststofdragers, afdrukken op verschillende soorten fotopapieren maar ook foto's op materialen als keramiek en glas passeren de revue. Nieuw in de Nederlandse fotoliteratuur is de aandacht die Van Dijk besteedt aan kleurenprocedés en digitale afdruktechnieken vanuit een oogpunt van herkenning van hun materialen en structuren. En passant maakt hij duidelijk hoezeer de ontwikkelingen in de fotografische techniek hebben doorgewerkt in wetenschap, commercie en allerlei takken van industrie. Het boek is voortgekomen uit de cursus Determineren van Fotografische Procedés en Druktechnieken die vanaf 1992 werd gegeven aan het prentenkabinet van de Universiteit Leiden door de auteur in samenwerking met foto- en drukhistoricus Johan de Zoete. L’œuvre cinématographique de Robert Kramer fait l’objet d’une reconnaissance internationale croissante. Elle s’accompagne d’un important corpus de textes préparatoires, lettres, notes et scénarios aujourd’hui conservés en France à l’IMEC (Institut mémoires de l’édition contemporaine). Le présent projet de livre a initialement été conçu du vivant de l’auteur, en complicité amicale avec l’historien du cinéma Bernard Eisenschitz. La disparition brutale de Robert Kramer en 1999 ainsi que diverses déconvenues éditoriales ont entravé sa publication jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Les textes de Robert Kramer révèlent la figure d’un cinéaste doté d’une conscience aigüe de l’histoire et des injustices sociales, dont l’engagement dans les luttes politiques de son temps est indissociable de ses films. Il a inventé des formes d’expression cinématographique inédites, mêlant l’expérience collective et certaines aspects biographiques pour produire des formes de fictions documentaires dont l’aspect novateur est loin d’être épuisé. Les textes ici réunis sont ceux qui entretiennent le lien le plus étroit avec ses films (réalisés ou non). Rédigés avant, pendant, ou après le tournage ou la sortie d’un film, ils apportent un éclairage précieux sur l’engagement politique et artistique (les deux n’étant pas dissociables à ses yeux), la méthode de travail de Robert Kramer, et instruisent la compréhension de son œuvre.

From early portraits of her five sisters, to photos taken above bookshelves and under beds, and later series on the New York City subway, Moyra Davey has spent four decades with a practice that comprises photography, film and writing. This book surveys Davey's work, bringing together her photos and film-stills; her writings on photography, memory, art and historical figures; alongside a suite of new essays and interviews. Davey examines the texture of life: defaced currency, empty whiskey bottles, the dust under a record player's needle. She also acknowledges that photos can be mementos, and for some time has printed her images as a kind of correspondence, sending them through the mail; when unfolded, they bear the creases and stamps of transit. Davey's films and essays are characterized by a similar intimacy, evinced by the artist's own peripatetic, literary mind. These are some of the figures that haunt her imagery: Walter Benjamin, Mary Wollstonecraft, Jean Genet and Chantal Ackerman. As with her photographic accumulations of fragments, Davey approaches these touchstones indirectly, drawing from their letters, journals and lesser celebrated works to understand how they committed to living creative lives.

These two volumes encompass the complete evolution of the work of the renowned Italian photographer, Guido Guidi. Made in Sardinia on two trips separated by forty years, the two books not only mark the stylistic development in the work of Guidi but also the historical shifts and changes on the remote island.00The first trip was on Guidi?s honeymoon in 1974, and with a Nikon F and a FIAT 127, he made a series of black and white photographs which reflect the social and political climate of Sardinia in the post-sixties era. Sculpteur et peintre américain, Ellsworth Kelly est avant tout connu pour ses œuvres minimalistes et abstraites. Peu de temps avant sa disparition, le 27 décembre 2015, Ellsworth Kelly décide de faire don au Centre Pompidou d'une de ses œuvres les plus célèbres, Window, Museum or Modern Art, Paris (1949), devenue depuis sa création l'un des jalons majeurs de l'histoire de l'art du XXème siècle. Bien que sa peinture soit d'apparence abstraite, elle reprend en réalité le motif de la structure de la fenêtre du Palais de Tokyo. C·est le principe du "already made" tel que l'a nommé Kelly lui-même. En hommage à ce don exceptionnel, le Centre Pompidou accueille la série de 6 œuvres portant le titre "Fenêtre".
