Ce volume présente, de façon synthétique, les vestiges découverts et étudiés à Dikili Tash (Macédoine orientale, Grèce) durant les deux programmes de recherches franco-helléniques menés sur le site entre 1986 et 2016. Il s'agit de vestiges successifs d'habitat datant du Néolithique (7e-4e millénaire av. J.-C.), du Bronze Ancien (4e-3e millénaire av. J.-C.), du Bronze Récent (1500-1100 av. J.-C.) et des époques historiques et modernes (8e siècle av.-19e siècle ap. J.-C.). On présente aussi les carottages et les investigations paléo-environnementales effectuées parallèlement, de même que les datations absolues. Ces données permettent d'esquisser une nouvelle histoire du site, qui s'étend désormais sur 8000 ans. Les principaux acquis en sont la reconstitution des paysages et des dynamiques environnementales, ainsi que le renouvellement de nos connaissances sur les dernières étapes du Néolithique, en matière d'habitat, d'économie et d'artisanat.

La publication, il y a plus de dix ans, d’un établissement rural occupé du vie s. av. J.-C. au iiie s. ap. J.-C., la ferme du Boisanne à Plouër-sur-Rance, dans les Côtes d’Armor (Daf 58) permettait à Yves Menez de s’interroger sur la notion de ferme indigène. Aujourd’hui, Ivan Jahier revisite la problématique à partir du site protohistorique de Courseulles-sur-Mer, implanté cette fois en retrait de la côte normande. Le gisement regroupe tous les éléments classiques de la ferme indigène : maisons, clôtures, dépendances, réserves, aire agricole et de pacage, restes domestiques, traces d’activités artisanales, et même quelques sépultures, mais répartis à l’intérieur et autour d’une enceinte trois à quatre fois plus vaste que la plupart des enclos de l’âge du Fer de la région. À quelle nécessité répondait le regroupement de tant de structures de stockage dans une enceinte dont la vocation était manifestement plus ostentatoire que défensive et qui n’abritait que deux ou trois maisons ? Ivan Jahier tente de répondre à cette question avec un solide esprit d’analyse. Les conclusions qu’il tire, les interprétations qu’il propose éclairent d’un jour nouveau l’organisation de la société du ve s. av. J.-C., et permettent de développer de nouvelles hypothèses quant à l’origine de la transition culturelle qui a marqué le début du second âge du Fer en Normandie. The book compiles a portion of the contributions presented during the symposium “Urbanisation, commerce, subsistence and production during the third millennium BC on the Iranian Plateau”, which took place at the Maison de l’Orient et de la Méditerranée in Lyon, the 29-30 of April, 2014. The twenty papers assembled provide an overview of the recent archaeological research on this region of the Middle East during the Bronze Age. The socio-economic transformation from rural villages to towns and nations has prompted many questions into this evolution of urbanisation. What was the impact of interactions between cultures in the Iranian Plateau and the surrounding regions (Mesopotamia, the South Caucasus, Central Asia, Indus Valley)? What was the overall context during the Bronze Age on the Iranian Plateau? What was the extent and means of the expansion of the Kuro-Araxe culture? How did the Elamite Kingdom become established? What new knowledge has been contributed by the recent excavations and studies undertaken in the east of Iran? What was the influence of the Indus Valley culture, known as an epicentre of urbanisation in South Asia? What are the unique characteristics of the ancient cultures in Iran? While the urbanisation of early Mesopotamia has been the subject of much debate for several decades, this topic has only recently been raised in respect to the Iranian Plateau. This volume is the product of an international community from Iranian, European, and American institutions, consisting of recognised specialists in the archaeology of the Iranian Bronze Age. It provides an overview of the latest research, including abundant results from current on-going excavations. The current state of archaeological research in Iran, comprising many dynamic questions and perspectives, is presented here in the form of original contributions on the first emergence of towns in the Near and Middle East.
