Om tot optimale beslissingen en oplossingen voor het bedrijf te komen, maken bedrijfsanalisten gebruik van kwantitatieve modellen. Hoe moet de productie zich aanpassen aan een veranderende vraag? Bij welke productieomvang bereikt men maximale winst of minimale kosten?

This book is based on lectures given at "Mekhmat", the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics at Moscow State University, one of the top mathematical departments worldwide, with a rich tradition of teaching functional analysis. Featuring an advanced course on real and functional analysis, the book presents not only core material traditionally included in university courses of different levels, but also a survey of the most important results of a more subtle nature, which cannot be considered basic but which are useful for applications. Further, it includes several hundred exercises of varying difficulty with tips and references. The book is intended for graduate and PhD students studying real and functional analysis as well as mathematicians and physicists whose research is related to functional analysis.

"Introductory Mathematical Analysis for Quantitative Finance is a textbook designed to enable students with little knowledge of mathematical analysis to fully engage with modern quantitative finance. A basic understanding of dimensional Calculus and Linear Algebra is assumed. The exposition of the topics is as concise as possible, since the chapters are intended to represent a preliminary contact with the mathematical concepts used in Quantitative Finance. The aim is that this book can be used as a basis for an intensive one-semester course. Features: Written with applications in mind, and maintaining mathematical rigor. Suitable for undergraduate or master's level students with an Economics or Management background. Complemented with various solved examples and exercises, to support the understanding of the subject"--

This book discusses theoretical and applied aspects of Sturm-Liouville theory and its generalization. It introduces and classifies generalized Sturm-Liouville problems in three different spaces: continuous, discrete, and q-discrete spaces, focusing on special functions that are solutions of a regular or singular Sturm-Liouville problem. Further, it describes the conditions under which the usual Sturm-Liouville problems with symmetric solutions can be extended to a larger class, particularly highlighting the solutions of generalized problems that result in new orthogonal sequences of continuous or discrete functions. Sturm-Liouville theory is central to problems in many areas, such as engineering, mathematics, physics, and biology. This accessibly written book on the topic is a valuable resource for a broad interdisciplinary readership, from novices to experts.

This proceedings volume covers research in key areas of applied mathematical analysis, and gathers works presented at the international conference “Concord-90,” in honor of the 90th birthday of Professor Constantin Corduneanu (1928-2018). The event – which Professor Corduneanu was able to attend – was held at Ural Federal University in Ekaterinburg, Russia, on July 26-28, 2018. Professor Corduneanu’s research in mathematical analysis spanned nearly seven decades and explored a range of important issues in the field, including studies of global existence, stability problems, and oscillation theory, with special emphasis on various classes of nonlinear equations. He published over two hundred articles and several books, including “Almost Periodic Oscillations and Waves” (Springer, 2009). In this volume the reader will find selected, peer-reviewed articles from seven fields of research – Differential Equations, Optimal Control and Stabilization; Stochastic Methods; Topology and Functions Approximation; Mathematical Biology and Bioinformatics; Mathematical Modeling in Mining; Mathematical Modeling in Economics; and Computer Science and Image Processing – which honor and reflect Professor Corduneanu’s legacy in the fields of oscillation, stability and control theory.

Boris Pavlov (1936-2016), to whom this volume is dedicated, was a prominent specialist in analysis, operator theory, and mathematical physics. As one of the most influential members of the St. Petersburg Mathematical School, he was one of the founders of the Leningrad School of Non-self-adjoint Operators. This volume collects research papers originating from two conferences that were organized in memory of Boris Pavlov: “Spectral Theory and Applications”, held in Stockholm, Sweden, in March 2016, and “Operator Theory, Analysis and Mathematical Physics – OTAMP2016” held at the Euler Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, in August 2016. The volume also includes water-color paintings by Boris Pavlov, some personal photographs, as well as tributes from friends and colleagues.

This book provides an introduction to the most recent developments in the theory and practice of direct and inverse Sturm-Liouville problems on finite and infinite intervals. A universal approach for practical solving of direct and inverse spectral and scattering problems is presented, based on the notion of transmutation (transformation) operators and their efficient construction. Analytical representations for solutions of Sturm-Liouville equations as well as for the integral kernels of the transmutation operators are derived in the form of functional series revealing interesting special features and lending themselves to direct and simple numerical solution of a wide variety of problems. The book is written for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as for mathematicians, physicists and engineers interested in direct and inverse spectral problems.

Music reflects subjectivity and identity: that idea is now deeply ingrained in both musicology and popular media commentary. The study of music across cultures and practices often addresses the enactment of subjectivity "in" music - how music expresses or represents "an' individual or "a" group. However, a sense of selfhood is also formed and continually reformed through musical practices, not least performance. How does this take place? How might the work of practitioners reveal aspects of this process? In what sense is subjectivity performed in and through musical practices? This book explores these questions in relation to a range of artistic research involving contemporary musical practices, drawing on perspectives from performance studies, phenomenology, embodied cognition, and theories of gendered and cultural identity.
