Abstract

"Saudi Arabia has embarked upon an unprecedented reform agenda known as Vision 2030, which aims to create a dynamic, diverse and sustainable economy. To meet the demands of a 21st century, knowledge-based labour market, Saudi Arabia must develop a highly-skilled population, which puts education at the centre of Vision 2030. Saudi Arabia has made tremendous progress in expanding access to education and has achieved universal enrollment rates at primary and lower secondary levels. Nevertheless, most young Saudi Arabians leave school without having mastered the basic competences needed for success in future academic and professional endeavours. There are also widening disparities between students in terms of their access to high quality education and their subsequent learning outcomes. This review, developed in co-operation with the Ministry of Education of Saudi Arabia, analyses the strengths and challenges of the country's education system and makes recommendations to help improve student learning. It will be of interest to policy makers in Saudi Arabia and international audiences who wish to learn about the country's ambitious reform efforts."--Page 4 of cover.

Abstract

The OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) examines what students know in reading, mathematics and science, and what they can do with what they know. It provides the most comprehensive and rigorous international assessment of student learning outcomes to date. Results from PISA indicate the quality and equity of learning outcomes attained around the world, and allow educators and policy makers to learn from the policies and practices applied in other countries. This is one of six volumes that present the results of the PISA 2018 survey, the seventh round of the triennial assessment. Volume V, Effective Policies, Successful Schools, analyses schools and school systems and their relationship with education outcomes more generally. The volume covers school governance, selecting and grouping students, and the human, financial, educational and time resources allocated to teaching and learning. Trends in these indicators are examined when comparable data are available.

Abstract

Este livro nasce das vivências do projeto de extensão universitária “Roda de Conversas – Cotidiano e Escola”, cujas atividades se apresentam como possibilidade de formação continuada de professores e de ampliação acadêmica para licenciandos em formação. Os artigos se baseiam nessas experiências, que remetem a fundamentos teóricos de Paulo Freire, e oferecem uma proposta de reflexão sobre temas caros à educação e à escola pública. Os autores são estudiosos dos contextos escolares e educativos, que atuam na educação regular e na modalidade educação de jovens e adultos (EJA), com pesquisas e práticas verdadeiramente inclusivas, autorais e contextuais. Abstract

Este livro analisa a trajetória do jornalista Mario Pinto Serva e busca compreender seu itinerário no campo educacional paulista das décadas de 1910 e 1920. Trata-se de um mapeamento e análise das ideias apresentadas pelo publicista em um de seus principais espaços atuação, o jornal O Estado de S. Paulo, e em seu livro A Educação Nacional, de 1924. O olhar atento a essas duas fontes permitiram a Alexandre Simão descortinar aspectos que envolvem as estratégias articuladas pelo intelectual para acessar os debates e os locais frequentados pelos educadores do período, com destaque para a Liga Nacionalista de São Paulo e os eventos da Associação Brasileira de Educação. Na trilha dessa investigação, são levantadas e respondidas questões centrais: qual a relação entre as associações cívicas e profissionais na configuração do campo educacional? Como ocorreu a aproximação entre o articulista e as figuras de destaque no cenário educacional paulista? Suas ideias e propostas estavam alinhadas aos discursos dos agentes do campo? Quais competências o articulista atribuiu às escolas, aos intelectuais e ao Estado no que se refere às políticas de instrução pública? Nesse percurso, o autor contribui para o debate acerca da configuração das identidades profissionais no campo educacional paulista durante a Primeira República (1889 -1930). Ao reforçar a importância da imprensa periódica como fonte de pesquisa, o livro também traz à tona relevantes temáticas que podem fomentar estudos posteriores sobre os intelectuais na área da História da Educação do Brasil.
