Abstract

In our age, in the more developed part of our world, food is available to people with virtually unlimited access, as a result of which obesity has become a global problem, an epidemic that is increasingly threatening humanity. Obesity is significantly influenced not only by human genetics but also by eating habits, dietary composition, energy intake, which provides an opportunity to develop strategies to control body weight and obese people to achieve significant weight loss.We hope that with our book we can draw attention to the fact that obesity is a public disease and that much more should be expended to sacrifice for pre-obesity education, treatment of obesity, and healing of sick people. These "sacrifices" would not only serve the interests of the individual but would also bring significant benefits to the national economy, as less costs would be needed to spend to heal sick people, and they would be able to do their beneficial work in everyday life for longer.

Abstract

Video games can have many effects on players, some of which could be intentional effects (e.g., games designed to train health compliance behaviors), and most of which are unintentional (e.g., violent games, stereotypes, gaming disorder). Some of these areas of research have been seen as controversial, but many of the controversies can be at least partially resolved by considering the learning mechanisms underlying the effects. We describe the General Learning Model in greater detail than has been provided elsewhere, including short-term and long-term mechanisms, processes of learning and forgetting, and moderators of learning. Video games use many of the best practices to train for both mastery and for transfer of learning. The implications for re-interpreting the literature on violent video games and gaming disorder, as well as for applied social psychology broadly defined, are discussed.

Abstract

Gambling disorder is a behavioural addiction that represents the clinical extreme of a spectrum of gambling-related harm. What insights can neuroscientific and neuropsychological methods provide to help understand this condition and improve existing programs for treatment and prevention ? This volume describes recent research using an array of contemporary tools including structural and functional brain imaging, and neurocognitive assessment. These analyses consider brain activity and psychological functioning in people with gambling disorder under resting conditions, due to tasks of reward processing and inhibitory control, and as a function of important sources of individual differences including depression and impulsivity. This volume also synthesizes contemporary research using animal models to examine decision-making under uncertainty from a behavioural neuroscience perspective, as well as synthesizing evidence from pharmacological treatments for gambling disorders. These findings complement research to understand substance use disorders and other emerging forms of behavioural addiction. This volume contains contributions from many of the leading research groups in this exciting field
