La faculté d’architecture de l’Université libre de Bruxelles profite de son dixième anniversaire et de l’édition 2021 de la Triennale Photographie et Architecture pour publier l’ouvrage « Triennale Photographie et Architecture #7 _ Espaces des Origines / Origines des Espaces ». Malgré l’absence d’une exposition en raison des circonstances sanitaires que nous traversons, ce livre, c’est un thème spécifique mais aussi une occasion de jeter un regard rétrospectif sur une manifestation qui aborde l’architecture sous l’angle conjoint de la photographie et du récit depuis 15 ans maintenant. Une manière d’évoquer la discipline au-delà de sa valeur formelle et de sa dimension esthétique, pour investir ses épaisseurs humanisées, invisibles, codées, cartographiées, ses valeurs d’échange, non marchandes, les sens qu’elle contribue à établir à travers ses signes, dans sa réalité la plus anonyme, la plus quotidienne, la plus éloignée de son statut d’objet.

Aglaia Konrad?s photographic work probes the social, cultural, economic, political, and historical parameters that inform architecture and urbanism. ?Japan Works? is the result of her journey through Japan in the autumn of 2019. Using a pre-compiled list of places with exceptional architecture, Konrad took thousands of photos in Tokyo, Itoigawa, Kyoto, Nagoya and Osaka. In addition to mostly iconic, post-war Metabolist architecture, Konrad also took a large number of photos of nonspecific architectural moments and infrastructure that, with the same intensity, give their own impression of the architectural landscape in Japan. Free associations of full-page photographs alternate with contact sheets documenting her itinerary.
