L'intérêt majeur de la troisième des Critiques kantiennes est que son auteur s'y affronte à lui-même en cherchant la solution de difficultés dont il a conscience que son système les laisse pendantes, bref en cherchant à sauver ce dernier de ce qui le menace de l'intérieur. Parallèlement, nul doute que cette dernière oeuvre ait préludé à l'histoire de la science naturelle ultérieure en réhabilitant philosophiquement les concepts et principes majeurs du finalisme aristotélicien, soit d'une conception de la nature qui donne à comprendre comment l'agir humain peut s'exercer et être pensé sans contradiction avec ce qui le précède et le rend possible. Dès lors que ladite science en est arrivée à renoncer au pseudo-déterminisme de la mécanique classique, le principe qui pour Kant menaçait essentiellement l'humanisme moral doit cesser du même coup d'être considéré comme un a priori constitutif de l'explication scientifique des réalités naturelles. Disparaît alors ce qui a été, de l'aveu même de Kant, la motivation fondamentale qui a donné son sens à la construction de son système. Si l'on ajoute à cela les contradictions qu'un Vaihinger, entre autres, n'a pas manqué de relever dans la Critique de la raison pure, on trouvera chez Kant les meilleures raisons de faire retour à la métaphysique à laquelle il passe pour avoir mis fin.C'est peut-être à ce titre qu'il y a lieu de considérer la Critique de la faculté de juger comme le « couronnement » de l'oeuvre de Kant, soit comme le moment où, poussant à sa limite l'Intelligence de son propre système, il indique la voie dans laquelle celui-ci se révèle apte à produire des fruits philosophiques que sa lettre ne laissait pas prévoir.

Kant's anthropological works represent a very different side of his philosophy, one that stands in sharp contrast to the critical philosophy of the three Critiques. For the most part, Kantian anthropology is an empirical, popular, and, above all, pragmatic enterprise. After tracing its origins both within his own writings and within Enlightenment culture, the Element turns next to an analysis of the structure and several key themes of Kantian anthropology, followed by a discussion of two longstanding contested features - viz., moral anthropology and transcendental anthropology. The Element concludes with a defense of the value and importance of Kantian anthropology, along with replies to a variety of criticisms that have been levelled at it over the years. Kantian anthropology, the author argues, is 'the eye of true philosophy'.
