Abstract

Post-Translational Modifications (PTMs) may occur at any stage following the translation process in the lifecycle of specific proteins. PTMs regulate several cellular processes including protein stability, subcellular localization, and protein-protein interactions. In recent years, more and more target proteins of PTMs have been proved to be related to epigenetic regulation and cell fate. Some enzymes that catalyze PTMs have also been found to be involved in human diseases. This book intends to provide the reader with an overview of the current state of the art in this research field, which focuses on the recent advances, new findings and perspectives in cellular functions, and their clinical significance in human diseases. We hope this book will help researchers in this area.

Abstract

Make social and emotional learning a way of being-all day, every day, and in any setting The pandemic and subsequent switch to distance learning combined with recent instances of racial injustice has put a spotlight on the cracks in the practice of social and emotional learning (SEL). More than ever before, schools are shifting their focus and prioritizing SEL competencies-around the nation and the world. The call for compassion has never been greater. To easily and effortlessly build SEL into virtual, blended, or in-person environments, behavior experts Jessica Djabrayan Hannigan and John Hannigan have drawn together a collection of tools and processes for SEL that can be applied in any learning environment. In SEL from a Distance, you'll learn:  The five SEL competencies and dozens of easy to use processes for building skills in each How to identify challenging behaviors and prioritize, define mastery, and teach the SEL skills necessary to address them Tips for identifying, teaching, modeling, and reinforcing SEL skills in a virtual setting Strategies for applying SEL to the needs of your unique learning environment Let this practical, easy-to-use toolkit guide you through embedding these critical SEL competencies into your virtual classrooms and make SEL a way of being for you and your students-anytime, anywhere.

Abstract

"The authors of the bestselling Challenging Behavior in Young Children bring their wealth of practical experience, breadth of research base, and approachable tone to this new book for early childhood administrators guiding their staffs--and the children and families they serve--in preventing and responding effectively to challenging behavior. The stakes are high when children get kicked out of early childhood programs: they learn that no one believes in their ability to succeed. As states and school districts increasingly prohibit the suspension and expulsion of young children, directors and administrators of early childhood programs and principals of schools play a crucial role in making it possible for children with challenging behavior to remain in school and learn. Covering topics such as building an environment that promotes positive behavior, reflecting on the effects of bias and expectations on behavior, and empowering staff to use effective guidance strategies, this book offers ideas that leaders can actually implement while maintaining a high-quality learning environment."--Google Books viewed May 5, 2021

Abstract

Effective classroom management is the key to truly inclusive education teachers who excel at classroom management have students who are more engaged, less disruptive, and more likely to achieve academically. What can you do to confront behavior challenges, both in-person and virtually, and set your classroom on a positive course? Reclaim Your Challenging Classroom guides new and veteran teachers alike in developing effective classroom management techniques, with a particular focus on students with emotional or behavioral disorders. Addressing six interrelated topics—student perceptions of you as teacher, room arrangement, classroom expectations, consequences to encourage appropriate behavior, student lesson engagement, and classroom community—this step-by-step guide empowers teachers to create a positive and effective learning environment that is grounded in the student-teacher relationship. Each chapter includes: • Vignettes inspired by real classrooms and students • Ideas and techniques for successfully addressing common problems • A “What Research Tells Us” feature that relates current research findings to the effective management of inclusive classrooms • Self-assessment inventories linked to each topic, plus more than 50 activities to guide teachers in applying key concepts and strategies in their own classroom Now is the time to alter the course of your classroom! Effective, relationship-based behavior management keeps students on track and makes your classroom a better place to teach and to learn.

Abstract

"Feilden shares personal experiences and frustrating challenges to create an indispensable resource for teachers who wish to unravel the mysteries of teenage behaviours. Addressing increasing rates of exclusion, the book introduces the reader to teenage defence mechanisms and explores difficult behaviours. By revealing the desire to be understood, a yearning to be loved and a capacity to change, the book gives teachers the tools needed to build their own personal roadmap of the teenage brain when they feel lost, confused or confounded by the actions of young people who are viewed by society as failures to thrive. Offering a fresh approach built on years of experience, Beneath the Behaviour effectively merges theoretical psychology and real-life narrative, and is the perfect resource for those who wish to feel more curious and hopeful about their relationships with young people"--

Abstract

This electronic version has been made available under a Creative Commons (BY-NC-ND) open access license. Your organs are failing and require replacement. If you had the choice, would you prefer organs from other humans or non-human animals, or would you choose a 'cybernetic' medical implant?Using a range of social science methods and drawing on the sociology of the body and embodiment, biomedicine and technology, this book asks what happens to who we are (our identity) when we change what we are (our bodies)? From surveying young adults about whether they would choose options such as 3-D bioprinting, living or deceased human donation, or non-human animal or implantable biomechanical devices, to interviewing those who live with an implantable cardiac defibrillator, Haddow invites us to think about what kind of relationship we have with our bodies. She concludes that the reliance on 'cybernetic' medical devices create 'everyday cyborgs' who can experience alienation and new forms of vulnerability at implantation and activation.Embodiment and everyday cyborgs invites readers to consider the relationship between personal identity and the body, between humans and non-human animals, and our increasing dependency on 'smart' implantable technology. The creation of new techno-organic hybrid bodies makes us acutely aware of our own bodies and how ambiguous the experience of embodiment actually is. It is only through understanding how modifications such as transplantation, amputation and implantation make our bodies a 'presence' to us, Haddow argues, that we realise our everyday experience of our bodies as an absence.
