Fan engines are widely used in the aeronautical industry especially for ventilation applica-
tions. However, this component generates a lot of flow-induced noise that has to be reduced
to not alter the comfort of the users. In this context, this master thesis has been proposed
by GDTech Engineering at the request of BaByliss in order to study the propagation of aero-
acoustic sources in a hair dryer and to find solutions for noise attenuation.
To do so, a preliminary study of a point source propagation inside a rigid cylinder is carried
out. This set-up makes it possible to tame the Actran software through the highlight of
resonance phenomenon and the analysis of propagation modes. From parameters influence
studies, it is shown that only the internal cylinder of the geometry is important, indicating
that the whole hair dryer study can be realised on a simple cylinder.
Lighthill analogy is then implemented based on computational fluid dynamic results for the
engine inside the cylinder. The ICFD module is used to obtain the aero-acoustic surface
and volume sources of noise. On one hand, the surface results show dipole distributions as
a consequence of rotor-stator interaction at the harmonics of the rotor rotation speed and
on the other hand, volume source linked to turbulence effects are especially marked at the
blade passing frequency. The resulting sound pressure level is therefore important at all the
rotor rotation speed frequency harmonics. However, these results are biased by an important
numerical error.
The main objective is then to passively attenuate these peaks. Four methods are implemented
based on absorbers and metamaterials. It is shown that adding a porous lining in the hair
dryer casing can create a broad attenuation at high frequencies. Micro-perforated panels
are also designed at the blade passing frequency but these present poorer performance. The
combination of both, i.e. micro-perforated panels backed by a porous material, is the most
efficient solution in the present case, creating a broad attenuation even more significant at the
blade passing frequency. Finally, a helical metamaterial is presented to attenuate a specific
lower frequency. Even if one design is shown to be satisfying, the limitations of this solution
are highlighted. Les moteurs électriques sont largement utilisés dans l’industrie aéronautique, notamment
pour les applications de ventilation. Cependant, ce composant génère beaucoup de bruit in-
duit par l’écoulement qui doit être réduit pour ne pas altérer le confort des utilisateurs. Dans
ce contexte, cette thèse de master a été proposée par GDTech Engineering à la demande de
BaByliss afin d’étudier la propagation des sources aéro-acoustiques dans un sèche-cheveux et
de trouver des solutions pour réduire le bruit généré.
Pour ce faire, une étude préliminaire de la propagation d’une source ponctuelle à l’intérieur
d’un cylindre rigide est réalisée. Ce test permet d’apprivoiser le logiciel Actran à travers la
mise en évidence du phénomène de résonance et l’analyse des modes de propagation. A partir
d’études de paramètres d’influence, il est montré que seul le rayon interne de la géométrie
est important, ce qui indique que toute l’étude du sèche-cheveux peut être réalisée sur un
simple cylindre.
L’analogie de Lighthill est ensuite mise en œuvre sur base de résultats numériques d’études
de mécanique des fluides pour le moteur à l’intérieur du cylindre. Le module ICFD est utilisé
pour obtenir les sources aéro-acoustiques surfaciques et volumiques. D’une part, les résultats
de surface montrent des distributions dipolaires résultantes de l’interaction rotor-stator aux
harmoniques de la vitesse de rotation du rotor et d’autre part, les sources volumiques liées
aux effets de turbulence sont particulièrement marquées à la fréquence de passage des pales.
Le niveau de pression acoustique résultant est donc important à toutes les harmoniques de
la fréquence correspondant à la vitesse de rotation du rotor. Cependant, ces résultats sont
biaisés par une erreur numérique importante.
L’objectif principal est alors d’atténuer passivement ces pics. Quatre méthodes sont testées,
basées sur des absorbeurs et des métamatériaux. Il est montré que l’ajout d’un revêtement
poreux dans la coque interne du sèche-cheveux peut créer une large atténuation à haute
fréquence. Des panneaux microperforés sont également conçus à la fréquence de passage des
pales, mais ils présentent de moins bonnes performances. La combinaison des deux, c’est-à-
dire des panneaux microperforés doublés d’un matériau poreux, est la solution la plus efficace
dans le cas présent, créant une large atténuation encore plus importante à la fréquence de pas-
sage des pales. Enfin, un métamatériau hélicoïdal est présenté pour atténuer une fréquence
spécifique qui est plus basse. Même si un design s’avère satisfaisant, les limites de cette
solution sont mises en évidence.

Football is one of the most famous sports in the world, and it is evolving considerably. Indeed, whether it is the way it is followed, watched, or experienced, it is constantly changing. The digital revolution is having a big influence on these changes, which are having an impact on the football world. The place of the fan in football is also constantly changing. Today, they are hyper-connected and informed of every news about their favourite club or athlete.
The ways football organisations keep their fans engaged are now mainly based on digital technologies. The sport results are not sufficient in today’s world.
This thesis examines how football organisations use digital technologies to keep their fan’s the most engaged as possible.
In order to get a proper vision of how organisations do, some football organisations have been interviewed. This study is mainly based on the answers the interviewees gave about their digital technologies use.
This research demonstrates that football organisations have different digital strategies, depending on the technology they use. Regarding social networks, all football organisations seem to use them with the same final objectives in terms of fan’s engagement. However, when it comes to NFTs, as it is a recent technology, football organisations do not share the same points of views and objectives

This important publication accompanies the first ever exhibition devoted to Vincent van Gogh's self-portraits across his entire career. The exhibition at the Courtauld Gallery and accompanying catalogue feature world-famous and lesser known works from the great artist. The myth of Van Gogh today is linked as much to his extraordinary life as it is to his stunning paintings. His biography has often shaped the way that his self-portraits have been (mis)understood. Van Gogh. Self-Portraits reconsiders this aspect of his production and places the artist's self-representation in context to reveal the role it plays in his oeuvre. It also explores the power and profound emotion of these highly personal paintings. 'Van Gogh. Self-Portraits' is the first time this theme has been exclusively addressed. Self-portraits painted during Van Gogh's time in Paris (February 1886 ? February 1888) have been the subject of two exhibitions (in 1960 at Marlborough Fine Arts in London and in 1995 at the Kunsthalle in Hamburg) but never has the full chronological range been explored. The exhibition at The Courtauld Gallery features paintings from both the Parisian and Provençal periods. It brings together half of Van Gogh's thirty-five known self-portraits to examine the ways the artist approached this particular subject-matter. On a practical level, painting himself provided Van Gogh with the cheapest and most patient of models and represented an important conduit for stylistic experimentation. He also used self-portraiture as an homage to his illustrious Dutch predecessor Rembrandt, as well as a way of fashioning his own identity and presenting himself to the outside world. Of particular interest is the striking way the evolution of Van Gogh's self-representation over the short years of his artistic activity can be seen as a microcosm of his development as a painter.
