Environmental quality is crucial to our health, economy, lives, and for future generations. However, during the last few years, we have faced several serious challenges, which include, but are not limited to, climate change, unsustainable consumption and production, as well as various forms of pollution. These challenges are of global concerns for the sustainable development of human beings. This reprint has collected review and research papers aimed at a wide range of environmental topics: water and wastewater treatment and management, soil degradation and conservation, pollution control, the environmental impact of technologies, air quality and the indoor environment, and advanced environmental materials. Analytical methods developed for the determination of environmental pollutants were also welcomed. Papers dealing in the synthesis of adsorbents for the solid-phase extraction of environmental pollutants also fell within the scope of this Special Issue. Contributions describing novel and significant knowledge, scientific results, and advanced applications in the field of environmental sciences and technology were also welcomed. This reprint provides an integrated view of the trends in solving the problems associated with the achievement of sustainability in environmental technology.

Dieser Band trägt zu einer reflexiven Perspektive auf die Wirkung von Wissenschaft und Forschung für Nachhaltigkeit und entsprechenden Dilemmata bei. Die Beiträge entwickeln reflexive Perspektiven, was als ein Nachhaltigkeitsdilemma gelten kann, auf welche weiteren Formen von Widersprüchen Nachhaltigkeitsforschung trifft und wie mit ihnen umgegangen werden kann. This is an open access book. Politeknik Perkeretaapian Indonesia Madiun, Indonesia, presents ICORT 2022 "Innovative for Smart, Sustainable and Safe Transportation Systems," as its main focus. In response to several world challenges, such as sustainable development, transportation issues, global convergence of information and communications technologies, along with smart systems as opportunities as well as challenges in developments for better industries, it is considered important to discover innovative approaches from science and engineering perspectives. Innovation suggests the introduction of novelty to create better solutions. Innovation in engineering and science requires contributions from multidisciplinary sectors, academics, researchers, practitioners, and involving industries. All accepted papers from ICORT 2022 will be submitted in Proceeding or Jurnal Perkeretaapian Indonesia (Indonesian Railway Journal) (SINTA-indexed grade 4) or Journal of Railway Transportation and Technology (Indexed: Google Scholar, DOI, Dimensions, ROAD). "Advances in Sustainable Polymeric Materials" is a compilation of 22 articles highlighting the recent progress in the research and development of polymeric materials, with an emphasis on sustainability. Some papers focus on developing biodegradable plastics obtained from renewable sources such as starch and biomass waste. Other articles discuss modification techniques to improve the mechanical properties of biopolymers such as PLA and PHAs. The use of recycled polymeric materials in the construction industry is highlighted as a low-cost and environmentally friendly solution. Other studies include investigations on polymer-modified bitumen, a novel sound-absorbing material made from used palm-oil-based polyurethane foam and water hyacinth fibre composite, bio-based epoxy-lignin coatings, TiO2 nanocomposites, the photocatalytic activity of different polymeric composites, sustainable elastomers, interactions between vanillyl-alcohol-based epoxy and cross-linkers, polyvinyl chloride sorbent for rare earth elements, lignin-based thermoplastic, the chemical foaming process of polylactic acid, microencapsulation strategies for essential oils, electrochemical sensors for glucose determination, and an intelligent drug delivery system based on pH-sensitive polymeric formulations. It is important to recognize that the field of sustainable polymeric materials is vast and rapidly evolving, and while a single volume cannot entirely capture all the developments occurring in this field, this collection provides readers with a valuable introduction and overview of the topic.
