Arad's own individual approach to design is reflected in this selection which focuses on technological innovation and on fresh ways of perceiving and creating objects, from computer-generated repeat patterns for textiles to jewel-like hand-held remote controls. In a varied compilation, such established names as Ettore Sottsass, Nanna Ditzel, Kenneth Grange and Gaetano Pesce are included with younger talent. The move towards environmentalism and the emergence of a new conservativeness in design continue to be important themes. This year also sees designers and manufacturers moving towards a new, more human design language, particularly in the fields of products. Illustrations are accompanied by technical data, and a reference section includes biographies of the designers featured, and a comprehensive list of suppliers and their addresses and an update of design acquisitions at the major museums.
