Ce catalogue fait le point sur les nouveaux et récents travaux de Sigmar Polke. Sigmar Polke, est né en Silésie en 1941, il a étudié l'art à la Staatliche Kunstakademie à Düsseldorf de 1961 à 67. Au début de sa carrière, les travaux de S.Polke ont souvent été attribués à la tendance "Pop art européen". Vers les années septante, S.Polke explore la relation entre photographie et peinture. Ses voyages au Pakistan et en Afghanistan ont été utilisé comme source d'inspiration pour ses photographies manipulées et travaux en peinture. En 1980, S.Polke se lance dans des expérimentations avec des matériaux et des éléments chimiques, des mélanges de pigments traditionnels avec des solvants, des résines...Ces expériences l'entraîne vers une peinture de l'abstraction. Ces vingt dernières années, S.Polke a réalisé un certain nombre de travaux décrits comme "allegorical history paintings"
