The field of ancient Greek ethics is increasingly emerging as a major branch of philosophical enquiry, and students and scholars of ancient philosophy will find this Companion to be a rich and invaluable guide to the themes and movements which characterised the discipline from the Pre-Socratics to the Neo-Platonists. Several chapters are dedicated to the central figures of Plato and Aristotle, and others explore the ethical thought of the Stoics, the Epicureans, the Skeptics, and Plotinus. Further chapters examine important themes that cut across these schools, including virtue and happiness, friendship, elitism, impartiality, and the relationship between ancient eudaimonism and modern morality. Written by leading scholars and drawing on cutting-edge research to illuminate the questions of ancient ethics, the book will provide students and specialists with an indispensable critical overview of the full range of ancient Greek ethics.

"The Atlas of Ancient Rome provides a comprehensive archaeological survey of the city of Rome from prehistory to the early medieval period. Lavishly illustrated throughout with full-color maps, drawings, photos, and 3D reconstructions, this magnificent two-volume slipcased edition features the latest discoveries and scholarship, with new descriptions of more than 500 monuments, including the Sanctuary of Vesta, the domus Augusti, and the Mausoleum of Augustus. It is destined to become the standard reference for scholars, students, and anyone interested in the history of the city of Rome. The Atlas of Ancient Rome is monumental in scope. It examines the city's topography and political-administrative divisions, trade and economic production, and social landscape and infrastructure--from residential neighborhoods and gardens to walls, roads, aqueducts, and sewers. It describes the fourteen regions of Rome and the urban history of each in unprecedented detail, and includes profiles and reconstructions of major monuments and works of art. This is the only atlas of the ancient city to incorporate the most current archaeological findings and use the latest mapping technologies."

Can we still talk about « oriental religions » while setting them apart from « the other religions » in the Greek and Roman world? The concept of oriental religions was made canonical by Franz Cumont more than a century ago. Today, it is unanimously questioned, and with solid arguments. But it remains important to understand the context in which the concept arose and functioned. Only then can we return to the ancient religious landscape of Antiquity and study it with more adequate tools. The conference, of which this volume provides the acts, sets out to take stock of the study of oriental religions and to explore them in a new perspective, to study the historiographical heritage and to review the current debate. This volume shows how, at the turn of the twentieth century, a specialised field of knowledge arose with contributions from various disciplines such as ancient history, the history of religions, history of christianity and theology. It also points to new pathways in the research, based upon recently discovered material and inspired by new perspectives and new questions. Finally, this volume sheds new and, we hope, decisive light on the way ancient cults were inscribed in space and time, and on the strategies of integration and demarcation, the complexity of which appears far clearer to us now than it did a century ago, when the epoch-making book by Franz Cumont « The oriental religions in Roman paganism » was first published and started its influence on generations of scholars.
