The manuscript Illuminated Bible preserved by the Jewish Community of Venice is far more than a book. In its first pages one can find an interpretative debate between different Jewish writing traditions. A comparison that is literal but also figurative, with the use of colors, shapes, imaginative and realistic images. A small object, rescued from the book-burnings decreed during the Countereformation, from iconoclastic censorship, from the robberies and from the massacres of the twentieth century. A book that is the product of the encounter between the Jewish civilization, attentive to the written word, and the Italian culture producing wonderful artistic forms. An entire universe is restored to us by a mysterious time machine. Today we take up the task of fortifying this time machine and its restoration, in order to ensure that the transmission chain does not cease with us, but rather that it is continued by generations to come.

New Testament scholar Johannes Beutler brings together a lifetime of study and reflection in this acclaimed commentary, first published in German in 2013 and now available to English- speaking audiences for the first time. Moving through the Gospel of John with a careful and critical eye, Beutler engages the relevant primary and secondary sources; summarizes the existing discussion; and presents syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic analyses of the text. As he meticulously examines the Fourth Gospel, Beutler pays special attention to the influence of Old Testament and Early Jewish traditions, to the overall structure of the Gospel of John, and to evidence suggesting a later stratum of contextualized "re-readings" in the composition of the Gospel. Bold, literary, and theological, this volume represents a landmark work of German biblical scholarship.

A new translation and commentary on the book of Amos, forgoing speculation about his life to provide an innovative analysis of the book itself As part of the Hebrew Bible, the Book of Amos has been studied for more than two thousand years. This much-needed new edition includes an updated English translation of the Hebrew text and an insightful commentary. While previous scholarship speculated on reconstructions of the life of Amos, Eidevall analyzes this prophetic book as a literary composition, rejecting the conventional view of the book of Amos's origin and providing a new rationalization for the form and meaning of the text.
