This Regional Studies Policy Impact Book brings together the latest academic evidence and public policy insights with global value chains (GVCs) and foreign direct investment (FDI). It comprises a comprehensive description and explanation of why they matter for regional development and policy. It focuses on how sub-national regions can leverage them for innovation and upgrading, or "levelling up". Specifically, its attention is on how regions can build, embed and reshape GVCs to their local enhancement. The book makes the case for proactive sub-national public policy, on the engagement of GVCs. Vertically engaging with FDI rather than setting the ground and letting manna drop from heaven. Its chosen approach is three-fold. First, it looks at why. Why GVCs and FDI matter and why sub-national policymakers should focus their attention on upgrading. It critically reviews different streams of research and evidence. This is in order to identify key definitions and conceptual foundations for the analysis of the link between GVCs, FDI and innovation at the sub-national and local level. Second, it looks at what. This is through new conceptualisations and critical insights on the regional drivers and impacts of global connectivity, bridging macro-international and micro-firm level approaches. Third, is the critical how. How policymakers can leverage GVCs and FDI for their regional benefit. It aims to review empirical evidence and available policy evaluation in order to highlight what works (and what does not) when leveraging these concepts to shape public policies with particular reference to less developed regions. If the above is of interest, then the book is for you. It is based on leading academic literature but uses non-technical language throughout making it engaging for policymakers, researchers and students alike.

A collection of papers from the 1st annual International Scientific Conference of Business Economics, Marketing and Management (ISCOBEMM 2016) organized by the Department of Corporate Economy at the Faculty of Economics and Administration of Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. The topic of this conference was Enterprises after the Financial Crisis, particularly Challenges and Solutions for the Industry; however, the scope of conference participants’ papers was much wider, as it covered topics such as customer satisfaction, business performance, foreign direct investment, business environment, family business, industrial development, gender and personality traits in innovations, social business and others. I am proud that our conference was really international with participants from more than five countries from Europe and Asia. These proceedings present the latest scientific findings in the mentioned area.

La gestion des ressources humaines pose des défis particuliers dans les organisations publiques. Tablant sur leurs expériences de gestionnaires et de professeurs, les auteurs illustrent ces défis sous forme de dix-sept études de cas regroupées sous huit thèmes, comme le développement des compétences et la gestion des carrières. Louise Lemire est professeur titulaire à l'École nationale d'administration publique. Elle a aussi occupé, pendant près de vingt ans, des postes de conseiller et de cadre supérieur dans plusieurs organisations des secteurs public et privé. Son domaine d'enseignement et de recherche est la gestion des ressources humaines. Yves-C. Gagnon, professeur titulaire de la Chaire Bell en technologie et organisation du travail à l'École nationale d'administration publique, a également à son actif une vingtaine d'années d'expérience comme gestionnaire dans des organisations du secteur public et parapublic. Ses domaines d'enseignement et de recherche sont la gestion des ressources humaines et la gestion des nouvelles technologies.
