S’inaugurait alors une tradition attachée tout au long du XVIIIe siècle à perfectionner la connaissance de l’âme. Elle se diffusa de manière méconnue jusque dans l’empirisme, qui, plutôt que de la réfuter, l’endossa pour mieux la subvertir.
