Abstract

Gynecological and Breast Cytopathology Board Review and Self-Assessment is a comprehensive systems-based review of gynecological and breast cytology including cytomorphology, pitfalls and ancillary studies. Presented in a high-yield format with board-type multiple choice questions and detailed answers, this review includes chapters covering Pap smear cytology, colposcopy, breast FNA, and Pelvic washings. The book is also enriched with features to maximize studying and reviewing of cytopathology, including high-yield review with tables emphasizing key points, board exam-type questions, and high quality full-color images.   Written by cytologists and cytopathologists with experience in the practice of modern cytology, as well as intensive teaching experience at national and international levels. Gynecological and Breast Cytopathology Board Review and Self-Assessment provides an excellent review, resource, and self-assessment for pathologists, cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, and trainees preparing for board examinations.

Abstract

This book provides cytopathologists a succinct but comprehensive reference covering common diagnostic dilemmas caused by normal, iatrogenic, inflammatory and reactive/reparative changes in cytology samples. This book will provide immediate access to these confounders, clearly illustrating key features and detailing the pitfalls these cells engender in all cytologically accessible body sites. The text is organized in chapters corresponding to cytologically accessible body sites/organ systems. Each chapter’s discussions are further organized by general categories of confounders (i.e., normal contaminants, inflammatory, infectious and iatrogenic), with special attention to site specific confounders. Pitfalls in Diagnostic Cytopathology With Key Differentiating Cytologic Features will be of great value to practicing pathologists, pathology residents, cytopathology fellows, cytotechnology technologists and students. .

Abstract

This manual for diagnostic cytologists offers detailed guidance on diagnostic problems likely to be encountered in everyday practice. It encompasses exfoliative and aspiration cytology of all major nongynecologic body sites. Each chapter features an algorithm that presents the reader with the relevant microscopic findings, the most important additional findings, and the differential diagnostic possibilities and problems in a clear and easily remembered form. These algorithms will without doubt prove of great practical value to the reader, and they are also helpfully presented together at the end of the book. Another important feature is the wealth of high-quality color photomicrographs, which clearly document the visual appearances of the most important lesions and highlight the differential diagnostic difficulties. The accompanying text contains helpful general remarks and presents further relevant information on diagnostics, differential diagnostic procedures, and auxiliary methods. Besides established cytologists and pathologists, cytopathologists in training and cytotechnologists will find this book to be a valuable aid.

Abstract

This book provides current information for a judicious use of conventional and molecular ICC markers performed in cytologic samples to help in the cost-effective diagnosis of superficial and deep-seated masses. By providing both an eminently practical information for appropriate technical preparation of cytologic samples and a systematic exposure of the immunophenotypic and biomolecular characteristics of normal and pathological cells, the reported morphological-molecular findings highlight the characteristics of different lesions that are useful for the practical solution of a particular differential diagnosis. Chapters include description of the cytomorphology followed by a practical ICC staining pattern for each entity. Cytologic materials include serous effusions, exfoliative cytology, fine needle aspiration cytology of superficial and deep-seated masses, and squash preparation from central nervous system masses. Practical Immunocytochemistry in Diagnostic Cytology serves as a valuable resource towards understanding critical differences between tests performed on tissue samples and those carried out on cytologic samples.

Abstract

Flow cytometry forms an integral part of both basic biological research and clinical diagnosis in pathology. This straightforward new volume provides a clear, easy-to-read, and practical manual for both clinicians and non-clinicians at all levels of their careers. The chapter topics range from basic principles to more advanced subjects, such as apoptosis and cell sorting. Throughout Flow Cytometry: Principles and Applications, well-informed expert contributors present theoretical descriptions and practical protocols on this important and complex laboratory technique and its applications. Immunologists and Hematologists in the field of pathology, as well as biological researchers working with both human and animal models will appreciate the simple, clear-cut style in which principles and protocols in this volume are presented, and will refer to this book time and time again for clear and easy-to-follow protocols.
