Ce papier revisite le débat sur l'intégration euro-méditerranéenne en reconsidérant son impact observé et attendu sur la croissance économique des pays du sud et de l'est de la Méditerranée. A partir d'un travail empirique novateur mené en partenariat avec le CEPII, les auteurs mettent en évidence la supériorité de la logique d'insertion de ces pays dans la globalisation sur celle de l'intégration régionale puis soulignent la faiblesse des impacts macroéconomiques et sectoriels d'une ouverture commerciale. Enfin, dans une dernière partie, ils dégagent quelques enseignements et questionnent les politiques de croissance de ces pays.

Wettbewerb gilt im allgemeinen Verständnis als Grundvoraussetzung für wirtschaftliche Entwicklung. Die Europäische Union (EU) hat dies sogar in den vier Freiheiten des Binnenmarkts institutionalisiert. Auch in Deutschland gilt: je mehr Wettbewerb es gibt, desto mehr wirtschaftliche Dynamik bekommen wir. Doch kann man an einer solchen Denkweise tatsächlich noch festhalten? Was wäre, wenn wir dieses Modell von Grund auf neu denken würden? Ist es unserer Zeit nicht angemessen, wäre es nicht nötig, in die entgegengesetzte Richtung zu steuern? Das Gegenmodell, welches ein neues Verständnis von Wettbewerb mit sich bringt und wirtschaftliche Dynamik besser begreift, beruht auf der Arbeit des österreichischen Ökonomen Joseph Schumpeter. Er argumentiert, dass eine Wirtschaftspolitik, welche eine "jeder gegen jeden" Mentalität nährt, wie es in der EU der Fall ist, wirtschaftlichen Fortschritt sogar behindert.

The April 2022 update introduces the 9th edition of the Global Database of Shared Prosperity. Shared prosperity, defined as the growth in household per capita income or consumption of the poorest 40 percent of the population, is the World Bank's second Twin Goal, alongside ending extreme poverty. The Global Database of Shared Prosperity (GDSP) is the database that is used to monitor the progress of this indicator. This technical note describes the GDSP, documents the available data in this edition, and highlights the main differences with the 8th edition.

This Trends in Southeast Asia series - now revamped and redesigned - acts as a platform for serious analyses written by selected authors who are experts in their fields. It is aimed at inspiring policymakers and encouraging scholars to contemplate the diversity and dynamism of this exciting region. There is little evidence that Beijing is attempting to use economics to seduce or else compel Jakarta to make strategic decisions that the latter would not otherwise make. Even if China attempted to do so, the structure of the Indonesian economy and trend of its economic development model and open approach suggests that Beijing would have little capacity to significantly influence Jakartas strategic decisions. An entrenched mindset of maximising strategic independence and autonomy means that Indonesia will continue to avoid overtly picking sides and avoid strategic entanglements even as it seeks outside assistance to accelerate economic development. This will likely mean that Jakarta will continue with a posture of offering friendly ambivalence vis-a-vis China as a defensive and small-target hedging strategy.
