Dit boek is het resultaat van een project, gefinancierd door Cera. De verschillende koepelorganisaties van de sector hebben letterlijk de handen in elkaar geslagen: Vlaams Welzijnsverbond vzw. Jongerenbegeleiding vzw en PPJ - Pluralistisch Platform Jeugdzorg vzw. Een bestaand Vlaams kwaliteitszorginstrument, PROZA, diende als basis om voor de bijzonder jeugdbijstand een specifieke afgeleide versie te maken als instrument-op-maat.In dit boek zijn verschillende bijdragen te vinden. Niet alleen wordt het project en het instrument toegelicht, maar worden ook goede praktijken en ervaringen uit de sector beschreven. Dankzij de onderzoeken met het PROZA-instrument werd een dwarsdoorsnede gemaakt van enkele aspecten van kwaliteitszorg in de sector.

How much ethical teaching did you get as a medical student? What about as a registrar. How about in the last 5 years? Is it time for a refresher or perhaps even an introduction? The title General Practice and Ethics: Uncertainty and Responsibility certainly sounds relevant. Do the contents live up to expectations? This is not an introductory book, but it provides insights and questions that are relevant to all who are involved in family practice. The book is an edited series of chapters written by those involved in academic general practice in the UK. It is, however, relevant to those working in other health care systems. The first part of the book is devoted to themes. A series of chapters exploring uncertainty and responsibilities, evidence-based medicine, ethico-legal dilemmas, confidentiality and patient-centredness provide a different approach from the classic texts on biomedical ethics. This method works in that, although very concise, the authors outline several different models for dealing with dilemmas. The ‘themes' section finishes with a discussion of ethics and post-modernity. This for me was the chapter I had to re-read to get a grasp of it (to be honest I am still not sure I have yet understood all the concepts.) The second half of the book deals with several specific topics: prescribing, depression, advance directives and, finally, research. For most of us, the first three are important, the first two being very common—and both these chapters produced new insights into these common problems. The chapter on advance directives is a useful reader on a topic that promises to be an ethical maze when one is faced with a real case. The chapter about research may not be relevant to everyone, but is certain to be of increasing importance. Summing up then, this book is good value, well written and relevant to experienced practitioners. It can be dipped into or read cover to cover. Of note are the contemporary nature of the topics and the relevance of the whole volume to the practising family doctor. It makes a useful contribution to the literature.

Dit boek gaat over beroepsgeheim, het opslaan en verwerken van persoonsgegevens, medische informatie, het uitwisselen van informatie tussen collega's en voorzieningen, met leidinggevenden, met ouders en minderjarigen, bij kindermishandeling, en met politie en justitie. Ook recente methodieken als cliënt(en)overleg en casemanagement worden besproken. Het boek biedt een overzicht van de bijhorende wettelijke en deontologische kaders.Centraal in dit boek staan praktijk en reflectie. Niet alleen wordt elk thema door de auteur vanuit een ethisch kader doorgelicht, maar telkens wordt het getoetst aan concrete casussen waarmee de praktijkwerker dagelijks geconfronteerd wordt. Van elk wettelijk of deontologisch kader wordt nagegaan wat het belang ervan is voor de concrete begeleiding en samenwerking met cliënten en collega's. Workshops bieden de lezer de kans om individueel of in groep (bijvoorbeeld een team of een klas) over de thema's te reflecteren. De geestelijke gezondheidszorg is de laatste tien jaar sterk in ontwikkeling. Er zijn belangrijke verschuivingen opgetreden in de rechtspositie van cliënten, de attitude van hulpverleners en de opvattingen over de kwaliteit van zorg. Niet zo vreemd dus dat er een groeiende aandacht is voor de ethische aspecten van de zorg en dat men naarstig op zoek is naar het antwoord op vragen als mag je iemand tegen zijn wil opnemen of behandelen?, wanneer moet je iemand tegen zichzelf beschermen?, waar liggen de grenzen tussen respect voor je eigen autonomie en die van de ander? en tot hoever reikt je verantwoordelijkheid?. Hulpverleners zijn gewend om dergelijke vragen in de praktijk op te lossen. Vaak hebben zij echter pas achteraf tijd om zich af te vragen welke normen en waarden aan hun keuzes ten grondslag liggen en hun twijfels met collega’s te bespreken. Het is niet eenvoudig om altijd te weten wat verantwoord is. Waardenvol werk biedt een reflectie op de waarden die de basis vormen van het werken in de geestelijke gezondheidszorg zoals respect, autonomie, integriteit, rechtvaardigheid, verantwoordelijkheid, vertrouwen. Vanuit diverse ethische perspectieven wordt ingegaan op de vraag hoe deze waarden kunnen worden uitgewerkt in normen, houding en gedrag. Aan de hand van concrete voorbeelden bieden de auteurs de lezer houvast bij het nadenken en overleggen over ethische vragen die zich in de praktijk van de geestelijke gezondheidszorg voordoen. Deel I besteedt aandacht aan de basisbegrippen ethiek, autonomie en respect. In deel II staat de morele verantwoordelijkheid van hulpverleners centraal. Deel III is gewijd aan de dilemma’s die te maken hebben met de toepassing van drang en dwang. De juridische context hiervan is ook in dit deel uitgewerkt. In deel IV komen morele vragen aan de orde die specifiek zijn voor de sector van de ouderenzorg, de kinder- en jeugdzorg, en de zorg voor allochtonen. Het slothoofdstuk behandelt ethische aspecten van het beleid van vermaatschappelijking van de zorg. Het boek is bestemd voor beroepsgroepen werkzaam in de geestelijke gezondheidszorg, en verwante terreinen: psychiaters, gezondheidszorgpsychologen, klinisch psychologen, psychotherapeuten, orthopedagogen, psychiatrisch verpleegkundigen, maatschappelijk werkenden, geestelijk verzorgers en andere hulpverleners en zorgmanagers. De opzet en uitwerking maken het boek tevens geschikt voor het (activerend) onderwijs in de zorgsector.
