Los trabajos reunidos en este volumen abordan temas como la transmisión y la recepción en las comunidades rurales y en los espacios urbanos, tanto en generaciones mayores como en los más jóvenes y las formas impresas en los albores del siglo XX. Asimismo existe un apartado para el cancionero tradicional antiguo donde se estudian las formas poéticas utilizadas para la burla y los juegos, se tratan temas como el de las mujeres tanto en su faceta erótica como pastoras y serranas, así como en su faceta burlesca. Las comadres borrachas; también se analiza la onomástica, las expresiones paremiológicas en la lírica, las canciones de cuna y, en la lírica de tipo culto, se abordan temas como el caballero.

"What does music in Spain and Portugal reveal about the relationship between national and regional identity building? How do various actors use music to advance nationalism? How have state and international heritage regimes contributed to nationalist and regionalist projects? In this collection, contributors explore these and other essential questions from a range of interdisciplinary vantage points. The essays pay particular attention to the role played by the state in deciding what music represents Spanish or Portuguese identity. Case studies examine many aspects of the issue, including local recording networks, so-called national style in popular music, and music's role in both political protest and heritage regimes.
