Ce livre se veut une porte d'entrée à mes deux précédents ouvrages consacrés à la figure et au message de Jésus de Nazareth. J'ai cherché à interpréter, en dialoguant avec des exégètes d'hier et d'aujourd'hui, ce que Matthieu et Luc racontent, au début de leurs évangiles, sur l'enfance de Jésus. Une interprétation juste, selon moi, requiert deux étapes. D'abord, il faut se demander ce qu'ont voulu dire, à leur époque, les auteurs de ces textes, c'est la composante historique de l'exégèse. Mais il ne faut pas laisser le texte dans le passé. La seconde question doit être : Ce qui est dit est-il vrai ? Cela me regarde-t-il ? Et si cela me regarde, de quelle façon ? Je suis bien conscient que toute interprétation reste en deçà de la grandeur du texte biblique. J'espère que ce petit livre, malgré ses limites, pourra aider de nombreuses personnes dans leur chemin vers et avec Jésus.
