In dieser Situation war ein Überblick über die Vielfalt hermeneutischen Entwürfe der verschiedenen Epochen der Geschichte der christlichen Kirchen und Konfessionen bisher ein Desiderat.Das HBH bietet eine nach Epochen gegliederte Übersicht über die wichtigen Bibelhermeneutiken von Origenes (De principiis IV) bis zu den aktuellen Entwürfen der letzten Jahre.Jeder Text wird bibliographisch, formal und thematisch erschlossen und in seinen historischen und theologischen Zusammenhang gestellt.Mit diesem Werk wird zum ersten Mal der Zugang zu allen wichtigen bibelhermeneutischen Texte für Bibelwissenschaftler, Kirchenhistoriker, systematische und praktische Theologen ermöglicht.

Fujiwara no Teika (1162-1241) was born into an illustrious lineage of poets just as Japan's ancien régime was ceding authority to a new political order dominated by military power. Overcoming personal and political setbacks, Teika and his allies championed a new style of poetry that managed to innovate conceptually and linguistically within the narrow confines of the waka tradition and the limits of its thirty-one syllable form. Backed by powerful patrons, Teika emerged finally as the supreme arbiter of poetry in his time, serving as co-compiler of the eighth imperial anthology of waka, Shin Kokinshū (ca. 1210) and as solo compiler of the ninth.This first book-length study of Teika in English covers the most important and intriguing aspects of Teika's achievements and career, seeking the reasons behind Teika's fame and offering distinctive arguments about his oeuvre. A documentary biography sets the stage with valuable context about his fascinating life and times, followed by an exploration of his "Bodhidharma style," as Teika's critics pejoratively termed the new style of poetry. His beliefs about poetry are systematically elaborated through a thorough overview of his writing about waka. Teika's understanding of classical Chinese history, literature, and language is the focus of a separate chapter that examines the selective use of kana, the Japanese phonetic syllabary, in Teika's diary, which was written mainly in kanbun, a Japanese version of classical Chinese. The final chapter surveys the reception history of Teika's biography and literary works, from his own time into the modern period. Although Franz Brentano was one of the most influential turn-of-the-century philosophers, he, like Ludwig Wittgenstein, published little but left a large philosophical legacy. This study examines the biographical and theoretical reasons for Brentano's reluctance to publish and offers an overview of the checkered history of his philosophical legacy. Franz Brentano (1838-1917) gilt als einer der einflussreichsten Philosophen an der Wende vom 19. zum 20. Jahrhundert. Dennoch sind die Philosophiehistoriker noch zu keinem endgültigen Urteil über seine Bedeutung gelangt. Der Grund hierfür ist vor allem darin zu suchen, dass Brentanos Werk bis heute nur unzureichend zugänglich ist, was vor allem daran liegt, dass der größte Teil davon nur in handschriftlicher Form existiert: Nach seinem unvollendet gebliebenen Hauptwerk, der Psychologie vom empirischen Standpunkt, hat Brentano keine größere Arbeit mehr veröffentlicht. Im ersten Teil analysiert Binder die Gründe für Brentanos zurückhaltende Publikationstätigkeit, wobei einerseits der konfliktbehaftete biographische Hintergrund und die komplexe Persönlichkeit des Philosophen, andererseits theoretische Probleme, eine psychologische Einheitswissenschaft zu formulieren, die ihn an der Fertigstellung seines Hauptwerks scheitern ließen, im Vordergrund stehen. Im zweiten Teil verfolgt der Autor die wechselhafte Geschichte von Brentanos philosophischem Nachlass, die ihrerseits die Rezeption seiner philosophischen Theorien stark behindert hat.

Bisherige Betrachtungen einer jüdischen Rezeptionsgeschichte Jonas beschränken sich auf die Deskription vermeintlich wichtigster oder bekanntester Rezeptionsquellen. AUS DEM LEBEN DES BUCHES JONA untersucht die frühjüdischen und rabbinischen Rezeptionen des biblischen Propheten Jona auf ihre überlieferungsdynamischen Aushandlungsprozesse und ermittelt, woraufhin und mit welcher traditionsdynamischen Konsequenz im Wandel soziokultureller Kontexte rezipiert wurde. Die Rezeptionsgeschichte wird dabei, in Abgrenzung zur Auslegungs- und Wirkungsgeschichte, als Arbeitsfeld und nicht als Gegenstand der Forschung verstanden. Einer eigens entwickelten Methodik folgend werden Rezeptionen Jonas diskursanalytisch kontextualisiert und entlang einheitlicher Analysekategorien vergleichend untersucht. Dabei fließen sowohl historisch-kritische Denkansätze des New Historicism, als auch eine hermeneutische Skepsis hinsichtlich der Re-Konstruktion von Geschichte sowie methodologische Grundlagen der Vergleichenden Literaturwissenschaft und Religionswissenschaft, insbesondere in Auseinandersetzung mit Intertextualitätstheorien, in die Arbeit ein. Das Ergebnis ist ein detailreicher Bildausschnitt eines innerjüdischen Rezeptionsdiskurses. Daniel Vorpahl examines the early Jewish and rabbinic receptions of the biblical prophet Jonah for their narrative-dynamic negotiation processes. Following a specially developed methodology, Jonas’ receptions are contextualized in terms of discourse analysis and analyzed in a comparative manner along uniform analysis categories. The result is a detailed image section of an intra-Jewish reception discourse.

This book brings together an international group of scholars to offer new perspectives on the political impact and afterlife of the dictator Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix (138–78 B.C.), one of the most important figures in the complex history of the last century of the Roman Republic. It looks beyond the march on Rome, the violence of the proscriptions, or the logic of his political reforms, and offers case studies to illustrate his relations with the Roman populace, the subject peoples of the Greek East, and his own supporters, both veterans and elites, highlighting his long-term political impact and, at times, the limits on his exercise of power. The chapters on reception reassess the good/bad dichotomy of Sulla as tyrant and reformer, focusing on Cicero, while also examining his importance for Sallust, and his characterisation as the antithesis of philhellenism in Greek writers of the Imperial period. Sulla was not straightforward, either as a historical figure or exemplum, and the case studies in this book use the twin approach of politics and reception to offer new readings of Sulla’s aims and impact, both at home and abroad, and why he remained of interest to authors from Sallust to Plutarch and Aelian.
