Emoties en beleving van de patiënt. In de praktijk zijn de opdrachten vereist om somatische noden te verhelpen, preciezer omschreven en beter gekend dan de adequate reactiewijzen ten aanzien van emotionele noden. Een verkeerde inspuiting of het onnauwkeurig volgen van een infuusverloop worden erger beleefd dan een foutieve of ondeskundige communicatie. Artsen en verpleegkundigen krijgen zeer nauwkeurige instructies als het gaat om lichamelijke zorg. Voor de psychosociale noden blijven de opdrachten vaag of niet-bestaand. In deze bundel wordt ingegaan op de psychosociale aspecten van de patiëntenzorg. Het is een poging om gefundeerde kennis op een systematische wijze aan te bieden, onder de vorm van een praktische leidraad voor artsen, verpleegkundigen en andere gezondheidswerkers. Medische en verpleegkundige zorg voor de integrale mens kan echter niet beperkt worden tot lichamelijk-somatische aspecten. Somatische, psychische, sociale en geestelijke facetten spelen en rol in voortdurende wisselwerking. Wat er zich op het somatisch vlak afspeelt, is niet strict te scheiden van de wijze waarop de patiënt dit beleeft (psychisch aspect), van de consequenties die dit heeft voor zijn sociale contacten met mensen (sociaal aspect), en van zijn zoeken naar zingeving (geestelijk aspect). We stellen echter vast dat er een grote discrepantie is tussen de hooggespecialiseerde onderbouw van de somatische zorg enerzijds en het amateurisme waarmee wordt ingegaan op de psychosociale en geestelijke noden van de patiënt en het gezin anderzijds. In de uitbouw van de gezondheidszorg gaan technologische mogelijkheden voor op begeleidend personeel voor de patiënt en zijn gezin.

In deze bundel wordt ingegaan op de psychosociale aspecten van de patiëntenzorg. Het is een poging om gefundeerde kennis op een systematische wijze aan te bieden, onder de vorm van een praktische leidraad voor artsen, verpleegkundigen en andere gezondheidswerkers. We opteren voor problemen waarmee een breed bereik van gezondheidswerkers te maken hebben en waarin een samenspel van huisarts, specialist, verpleegkundigen en andere gezondheidswerkers onontbeerlijk is. In dit tweede deel gaan we in op de volgende thema's: op welke wijze kan men de ongeneeslijk zieke patiënt met kwaliteit van leven laten leven tot de laatste dag; is sterven een situatie waarin men 'medisch niets meer kan doen' of wat kan adequate opvang zijn; hoe kan men nabestaanden helpen doorheen hun verlies naar een leefbare toekomst; vanuit welke oriëntaties kan men bejaarden in het ziekenhuis benaderen; welke problemen stellen zich bij ontslag van bejaarden uit het ziekenhuis en hoe kan men hen hierop adequaat voorbereiden?

Samenvatting: In deze uitgave wordt de problematiek van de interculturele communicatiein de gezondheidszorg vanuit verschillende gezichtspunten belicht: naastgetuigenissen van huisartsen, interculturele bemiddelaars engezondheidswerkers, komen ook beleidsverantwoordelijken .Praktijkervaringen en beleidsvisies wisselen elkaar af. Hieruit blijktduidelijk dat een integratiebeleid enkel reële slaagkansen heeft indienbinnen een sleutelsector als volsgezondheid de uitwisseling van correcteen volledige informatie - tussen individuen, tussen individuen en deinstellingen die zich met hen inlaten, tussen instellingen onderling, entussen instellingen en beleidsverantwoordelijken - gewaarborgd wordt. Ditkan men realiseren via onderwijs en opvoeding, via sensibilisatie, viaeen veralgemeende strijd ook tegen racisme en tegen vooroordelen tovminderheden, via de opleiding van de gezondheidswerkers en via hetuitwerken van een effectief statuut voor interculturele bemiddelaars.
