"Dermatologists deal with the skin and its diseases (including scalp). It is a specialty with both medical and surgical intervention and dermatologists may specialise in either area or cover both. As many patients present firstly to their family physician, OBGYN, allergist or nurse practitioner with clinical features of skin disorders, dermatology is also an area of interest to the allied specialist as they and are responsible for treating, or referring, skin disease. Dermatology is a very competitive specialty because of regular office hours (few emergency patients) and also the potential to earn comparatively large salaries, and even more so in the cosmetic dermatology sphere"--
