Abstract

This volume provides a comprehensive overview of the methodology, physiology, and contemporary and novel applications of cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) measurements. The chapters in this book cover topics such as an introduction of the neurophysiology, neuroimaging, and clinical methods for CVR measurement; the use of CVR methods in the study of aging, cerebrovascular dysfunction, dementia, and brain tumors; and recommendations for measurement protocols and future applications in clinical translation. In Neuromethods series style, chapters include the kind of detail and key advice from the specialists needed to get successful results in your research center and clinical investigation. Thorough and comprehensive, Cerebrovascular Reactivity: Methodological Advances and Clinical Applications is a valuable tool that provides researchers in neuroscience and neurology with the latest resources on the measurement, interpretation, and application of CVR measurement.

Abstract

Advances in Resting-State Functional MRI: Methods, Interpretation, and Applications gives readers with basic neuroimaging experience an up-to-date and in-depth understanding of the methods, opportunities, and challenges in rs-fMRI. The book covers current knowledge gaps in rs-fMRI, including "what are biologically plausible brain networks," "how to tell what part is noise," "how to perform quality assurance on the data," "what are the spatial and temporal limits of our ability to resolve FC," and "how to best identify network features related to individual differences or disease state".This book is an ideal reference for neuroscientists, computational neuroscientists, psychologists, biomedical engineers, physicists and medical physicists. Both new and more advanced researchers alike will be able to discover new information distilled from the past decade of research to become well-versed in rs-fMRI-related topics.Presents the first book to explain the latest methods, opportunities and challenges of Resting-state Functional MRIEdited and authored by leading researchers in fMRIIncludes neuroscientific and clinical applications

Abstract

This book provides insights into current issues in corporate governance by examining twelve cases from the 2010s and 2020s where corporate governance was seen to be an issue. The cases are designed to introduce the reader to ‘real life’ episodes with corporate governance implications, shedding light on why corporate scandals continue to occuer, to what extent these are a corporate governance failure, and in which ways corporate governance – and the behaviour of those involved in ensuring good governance and an ethical culture in their business - may be improved in the future. This book will be of interest to businesspeople, students of business, and lawyers and motivate discussion on the reasons why corporate governance failed, or was seen to be inadequate. Professor Jean Jinghan Chen joined the University of Macau in 2018 as a Chair Professor in Accounting and Finance and the Dean of Faculty of Business Administration. Prior to joining the University of Macau, Professor Jean Chen worked in the UK Higher Education Sector for almost 30 years. She was a Chair Professor of Accounting and Finance in the University of Southampton, at the University of Surrey and at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.

Abstract

Since its opening up and economic reforms in 1979, China has undergone tremendous economic growth and social development, with a 10 percent real gross domestic product growth per year on average through 2013. In spite of such an accomplishment, the current economic growth model in China, which is mainly triggered by the export-led policy and the huge government investment, has been challenged by potential external and internal risks, which do not support sustainable economic growth in the long run. In this book, we comprehensively review the corporate governance practices in China, based on which we try to identify the major problems within such practices. We contend that these problems have been seen as the major challenges facing the Chinese economy, and we further argue that the current weakness of corporate governance practices in China can be ascribed, to a great extent, to the incompleteness and weakness of law enforcement.

Abstract

Multinational enterprises have become a main engine of the global economy, technical advancement, and product innovation, playing a pivotal role in the world economy and the global technological revolution. However, MNEs are also often embroiled in financial fraud and corporate scandal which show that MNEs should improve their corporate governance. Meanwhile, as COVID- 19 runs rampant across the world, populism and deglobalisation have resurged, and protectionism and unilateralism are exerting negative impacts on the world economy. Achieving sustainable development in this context is a test of a company's management and governance abilities. How should they be governed? This book will be a useful tool for university research-led teaching and fundamental research in corporate governance theories of MNEs in general, as well as using Chinese case studies as evidence to support our theoretical arguments. Jean Jinghan Chen is a Chair Professor in Accounting and Finance and the Dean of Faculty of Business Administration. Prior to joining the University of Macau, Professor Jean Chen worked in the UK higher education sector for almost 30 years and was the Founding Head of Southampton Business School and Chair Professor in Accounting and Finance at the University of Southampton in the UK. Runhui Lin is a Professor in organization and management of the Business School at Nankai University, as well as the director of the Network Governance Center of the China Academy of Corporate Governance (CACG).
