Originally published in 1950, this book was based upon the Kaye Prize Essay for the year 1947. The text deals with a special problem offered by the Philonic evidence, and also forms part of a comprehensive inquiry into the nature and history of the text of the Septuagint. Detailed analysis is given on the distinct set of quotations from the Old Testament which in some parts of Philo's work differ to a greater or lesser extent from the wording of the Septuagint. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in Philo, philosophy and theology.

Explores how Victorian novelists used the science of feeling to understand reading as an embodied process that cultivates empathy. Reading Bodies in Victorian Fiction challenges literary studies to attend to surfaces rather than interpretation through a history of how we came to think about emotion, empathy and reading fiction as intertwined ideas. Against professional readers, writers of popular fiction argued that emotional reading and sensational novels cultivated an ethics of care. They turned to Associationism - an eighteenth- and nineteenth-century science that understood mental phenomena through physiology - to understand language as a physiological process that draws bodies together. Emotional reading cultivated empathy in popular readers, and imbued popular fiction with cultural value.

Central securities depositories (CSDs) are systemically important entities that are critical for effective implementation of monetary policy, the credibility of a government’s debt management program, collateral management, and safe and efficient securities markets. Authorities in developing markets, in particular central banks, may grapple with the following issues: i) whether to pursue a single CSD for all types of securities to increase market efficiencies and benefit from economies of scale; and ii) whether to partake in the governance of the CSD as owner and/or operator. This paper develops seven considerations that authorities may take into account in addressing these issues and finding the best model for their country. These may point to different solutions for different countries, depending in part on the size of markets, strength of private operators and level of market development.
