Dit boek bevat een reeks bijdragen over de verhouding tussen representatie, technowetenschap en gender, daarbij gebruik makend van de metafoor van de cyborg. Volgens de auteurs biedt de cyborg nieuwe mogelijkheden om de relatie tussen vrouwen en machines, cultuur en technologie opnieuw te bekijken. Zij vragen zich eveneens af of de cyborg de verhouding tussen wetenschap en gender in vraag stelt, of er eenvoudigweg een ander perspectief op biedt.

De introductie en het gebruik van informatietechnologie in vrouwenstudies staan centraal in deze bundel. Tot op heden worden de mogelijkheden van de nieuwe technologie te weinig toegepast in de pedagogische praktijk van vrouwenstudies. Dat is deels te wijten aan de kritische houding tegenover technologie, deels uit financiêle overwegingen. De auteurs menen echter dat ICT nieuwe mogelijkheden biedt voor studenten en voor de academische staf. Zo wordt onder meer de relatie ICT en feministische pedagogie onder de loep genomen. Onderzocht wordt wat er nu specifiek feministisch is aan het gebruik van ICT in vrouwenstudies. Met praktijkvoorbeelden uit een aantal Europese landen, waaronder België
