This volume provides a comprehensive look into the innovative methods used to explore the visual system. From the way the brain processes vision, an imperative part of the human experience, to the role eye movement plays in a range of questions concerning visual perception, memory, attention, free will, and even topological diagnoses, this in-depth handbook gives neurologists, ophthalmologists, and neuro-ophthalmologists an invaluable tool to help them better understand the visual system. Disorders of the retinal and cerebral cortex, and those that affect control of eye and lid move

The Neurology of Eye Movements provides clinicians with a synthesis of current scientific information that can be applied to the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of ocular motility. Basic scientists will also benefit by descriptions of how data from anatomical, electrophysiological, pharmacological, and imaging studies can be directly applied to the study of disease. Bycritically reviewing such basic studies, the authors build a conceptual framework that can be applied to the interpretation of abnormal ocular motor behavior at the bedside. These syntheses are summarized in displays, new figures, schematics and tables. Early chapters discuss the visual need and neural basis for each functional class of eye movements. Two large chapters deal with the evaluation of double vision and systematically evaluate how many disorders of the central nervous system affect eye movements. This edition has been extensively rewritten and contains many new figures and an up-to-date section on the treatment of abnormal eye movements such as nystagmus.; A major innovation has been the development of an option to read the book from a compact disc, make use of hypertext links (which bridge basic science to clinical issues), and view the major disorders of eye movements in over 60 video clips. This volume will provide pertinent, up-to-date information to neurologists, neuroscientists, ophthalmologists, visual scientists, otolaryngologists, optometrists, biomedical engineers, and psychologists.

This new edition of Neurology of Eye Movements is a major revision providing clinicians with a synthesis of current and new scientific information that can be applied to the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of ocular motility. Basic scientists will also benefit from descriptions of how data from anatomic, electrophysiologic, pharmacologic, and imaging studies can be directly applied to the study of disease. By critically reviewing such basic studies, Drs. Leigh and Zee build a conceptual framework that can be applied to the interpretation of abnormal ocular motor behavior at the bedside. These syntheses are summarized in boxes, figures, schematics, and tables. Insights and techniques from current research, case examples, bedside and laboratory studies, and thousands of references are all available here from two leading clinician-scientists who have been studying eye movements for over a quarter century. The previous edition of Neurology of Eye Movements, Third Volume, established as acknowledged as a classic in the field, is now enhanced in this new edition by an accompanying DVD featuring the full text with links to 20 Video Displays that provide teaching slides ready for classroom presentation. Also on the DVD are 200 video clips, images, and the lectures notes Control Systems Applied to the Oculomotor System by David A. Robinson.
