"Entre 1978 et 1983, des fouilles menées dans le cadre des travaux du Centre belge de recherches archéologiques à Apamée de Syrie (CBRAAp) ont mis au jour un nymphée situé dans le centre de la ville antique. L'étude combinée des données archéologiques et de l'analyse architecturale a permis d'identifier un édifice enforme de fer à cheval, caractérisé en élévation par une architecture d'édicules à décrochement sur deux étages décorés de statues. Le circuit hydraulique et la couverture du bâtiment ont également pu être reconstitués. Érigé dans la seconde moitié du 2e siècle apr. J.-C., le nymphée connaîtra une phase detransformation au 5e/6e siècle. Des trouvailles isolées, comme un trésor monétaire et une inscription grecque apportent également un nouvel éclairage sur l'histoire économique et culturelle d'Apamée durant l'Antiquité tardive. Il s'agit de la première monographie consacrée à un nymphée du Proche-Orient."-- "Im Rahmen der Forschungen des Centre Belge de Recherches Archéologiques d'Apamée (CBRAAp) wurde 1978 bis 1983 das Nymphäum in Stadtzentrum von Apamea freigelegt und untersucht. In diesem Band wird die Rekonstruktion des Baus und seiner Figurenausstattung vorgelegt. Dies war durch die enge Zusammenarbeit von Archäologie und Bauforschung möglich. Damit ist der Bau - im Vergleich zu allen anderen bekannten Bauten dieses Typus im syrischen Raum - das erste monographisch publizierte Nymphäum im Vorderen Orient. Es handelt sich und eine hufeisenförmige Anlage mit zweigeschossiger Ädikulaarchitektur und reichen Statuenschmuck. Auch Wasserfluss und Überdachung lassen sich rekonstruieren. Nach der Errichtung in der 2. Hälfte des 2. Jhs. n. Chr. erfuhr der Bau im 5./6. Jh. einen Umbau. In der zweiten Hälfte des 7. Jhs diente er nicht mehr als Nymphäum, sondern als Begräbnisplatz. Einzelfunde aus der unmittelbaren Nachbarschaft des Nymphäums, wie ein Münzfund und eine griechische Inschrift, werfen ein neues Licht auf die Kultur- und Wirtschaftgeschichte Apameas in der Spätantike."--

As part of a cooperation project between the German Archaeological Institute, the University of Vienna and the Syrian Antiquities Directorate, archaeological investigations were carried out between 1998 and 2010 under the direction of the editor in the area of ​​the pre-Roman-Hellenistic settlement of Palmyra. On the one hand, a continuous settlement from the 3rd century BC was first established for Palmyra. Proven until the 3rd century AD, on the other hand a monumental building was uncovered, which can be referred to as the residence of a caravan master. The unusually rich furnishings of the architecture of this building as well as the numerous so-called small finds highlight the almost global trade relations of Palmyra and the resulting material and cultural wealth of the city. The results of these investigations are presented here in a final, complete publication.
