Abstract

This chapter will use theological resources to assess and critique the 'marriage education movement', a social phenomenon that has risen to prominence in the past decade in North America and Europe, and which seeks to strenghten contemporary marriages by educating couples in marriage communication skills. (...) The thesis I will develop here is that while the marriage education movement provides valuable tools for couples to strenghten their marriages, it cannot be sustained effectively on its present, largely therapeutic basis. To help marriages in a meaningful and lasting way, marriage education needs to expand its horizons to include more socially --and spiritually-- oriented marriage education traditions like those found in Christian theology. Abstract

While the interests, orientations and methodologies of the individual contributions are diverse there is a general tendency to forgo official national and regional discourses of social space in favour of discuss...

Abstract

The essays in this volume look at various kinds of music from a number of perspectives, including the socio-political, the aesthetic and the psychological. The music under discussion here is diverse but fits loosely into the categories rock-pop, new music, rap, metal and music video, with the caveat that much of the music discussed here is historically layered and engages self-consciously in the deconstruction of music genres. If there is an interpretative theme that links these essays, it is...
