Gebouwen zijn het resultaat van keuzes over hoe mensen samen willen leven. Dat geldt vooral voor bedrijfsgebouwen. Ze geven aan welk belang een bedrijf hecht aan zijn omgeving, zijn klanten en zijn werknemers. 
In Waarden in steen spreken mensen over gebouwen en vertellen gebouwen over mensen, met name de gebouwen die SD WORX de voorbije tien jaar optrok met de architectengroep Paul Van de Poel & Partners, aannemers, vaklui en kunstenaars. Het is een verhaal dat verder gaat dan de glamour van de architectuur of van het bedrijfsmanagement. Het gaat over mensen die samen mooie dingen maken, die in het straatbeeld en in de geesten blijven hangen. Waarden in steen biedt heldere inzichten in het denken en doen van de architect en heeft veel aandacht voor de kunst van Rombouts & Droste, Patrick Merckaert, Marc De Roover, Ever Meulen en Tina Gillen die hun werk integreerden in evenveel gebouwen in Antwerpen, Brussel, Kortrijk en Geel. 

Het boek kwam tot stand door aanmoediging van de AIAB, de Associatie van Instellingen voor het Architectuuronderwijs in België. Het is rijk geïllustreerd met werktekeningen, technische plattegronden en foto's van Patrick De Spiegelaere en Koen Broos.
