Iñaki Ábalos and Juan Herreros established the renowned architectural firm Ábalos & Herreros in Madrid in 1984. At the time, Ábalos and Herreros's melding of design with a range of publications and curatorial projects presented a remarkable challenge to assumptions about the role of an architect. In 2012, the Canadian Centre for Architecture obtained the Ábalos & Herreros archive, which contains documents related to more than 160 projects. The material comprises sketches, slides, models, collages, and drawings. The archive presents a compelling opportunity to reconstruct Ábalos and Herreros's planning and design process. This book is the first to draw on the firm's archive to offer a new take on this important architectural practice.

Challenging the dominance of the visual in the urban environment, the exhibition catalogue Sense of the City proposes a re-thinking and re-presenting of the city, and offers a more complex analysis of the qualities, comforts, communication systems, and sensory dimensions of urban life. From darkness and night to urban soundscapes, to the urban air and climate, this book presents a new, "sensorial" approach to urbanism. In defense of public spaces in contemporary cities, writer Cedric Price has observed that "mental, physical, and sensory well-being is required." Included here is a rich collection of images on the different urban themes addressed in the exhibition, along with a series of insightful and critical essays.

What role can history play in contemporary architecture practice? Besides, History: Go Hasegawa, Kersten Geers, David Van Severen invites three architects to reread, redraw, translate, and appropriate from the past and from each other in order to construct relationships between and meanings out of a constellation of references. In their conversations, history becomes a tool that can be used in production, rather than just an object of study. The book features newly produced plans, sections, models, and perspectives for projects by Go Hasegawa and OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen, juxtaposed with reference material chosen from the CCA Collection. Introduced and annotated by the architects, these images form a visual manifesto for a unique relationship to history.
