Conversations About Group Concept Mapping: Applications, Examples, & Enhancements takes a concise, case-based approach to concept mapping. After defining the method, demonstrating how to design a project, and providing guidelines to analyze the results, this book then dives into real research cases. Interviews with the researchers and follow-up exercises are also included. The cases are drawn from a wide variety of research settings, from mapping the needs of at-risk African American youth to creating dialogue within a local business community to identifying the best ways to support teens receiving Supplemental Social Security Income. Each case is synthesized by the authors, reflecting on the commonalities between the cases and drawing out insights into the overall group concept mapping method from each case.

Humans perceive the world by constructing mental models-telling a story, interpreting a map, reading a book. Every way we interact with the world involves mental models, whether creating new ones or building on existing models with the introduction of new information. In Models-Based Science Teaching, author and educator Steven Gilbert explores the concept of mental models in relation to the learning of science, and how we can apply this understanding when we teach science.

For the majority of travelers seeking inspiration for their destination choice, internet is the first source of information. The advent of Web 2.0 enabled tourists to share their advice and feelings about the places they visit, enriching the image of those places but at the same time making it more difficult to control for city's promotion managers. This thesis aims to compare the image of a fictitious city as perceived by people who had access to the official web site of the destination or to a travel forum about the destination. The results of this thesis suggest that when user generated contents on the forum were able form a richer image of the city, the website conveyed an image that was more structured.

Concept Mapping in Mathematics: Research into Practice is the first comprehensive book on concept mapping in mathematics. It provides the reader with an understanding of how the meta-cognitive tool, namely, hierarchical concept maps, and the process of concept mapping can be used innovatively and strategically to improve planning, teaching, learning, and assessment at different educational levels. This collection of research articles examines the usefulness of concept maps in the educational setting, with applications and examples ranging from primary grade classrooms through secondary mathematics to pre-service teacher education, undergraduate mathematics and post-graduate mathematics education. A second meta-cognitive tool, called vee diagrams, is also critically examined by two authors, particularly its value in improving mathematical problem solving. The theoretical underpinnings of concept mapping and of the studies in the book include Ausubel’s cognitive theory of meaningful learning, constructivist and Vygotskian psychology to name a few. There is evidence which suggests that students’ mathematical literacy and problem solving skills can be enhanced through students collaborating and interacting as they work, discuss and communicate mathematically. This book proposes the meta-cognitive strategy of concept mapping as one viable means of promoting, communicating and explicating students’ mathematical thinking and reasoning publicly in a social setting as they engage in mathematical dialogues and discussions. Concept Mapping in Mathematics: Research into Practice is of interest to researchers, graduate students, teacher educators and professionals in mathematics education.

"With Alfred H. Barr, Jr.'s 1936 diagram of the flow of art in the twentieth century at its core, the exhibition Genealogies of Art, or the History of Art as Visual Art brings together visual representations of the history of art by artists and art historians, from the genealogical trees of the seventeenth century to today's visual online diagrams, including paintings, sketches, maps, plans, prints, drawings, diagrams, and information graphics. The resulting overview counterbalances the usual discursive presentations of art history and shows how the visual narratives that museums and exhibitions offer have true and irreplaceable meaning for that same history."--Back cover.
