Pour la tradition juive, le sens de l'Ancien Testament est inépuisable : l'interprétation est libre d'en proposer, de génération en génération, des lectures nouvelles. À l'opposé de toute vision dogmatique, cette permanente invention du sens constitue l'essence même de la Révélation. Il y a là comme un Eros qui vivifie le texte, reflet lointain de la parole divine. Certes, parce que cette parole est destinée aux hommes et qu'elle vise à régler leur vie sur cette terre, le souffle originel de l'Eros s'est incarné, dans le texte biblique, en discours de la Loi. Mais, pour comprendre l'esprit qui le fait vivre, il s'agit de découvrir, derrière ce discours de la Loi, l'Eros primordial qui l'entraîne. Cette inspiration, Stéphane Mosès a voulu la retrouver dans sa lecture de textes majeurs de la Bible : la création de l'homme et de la femme, le conflit entre Jacob et Esaü, le récit de la révélation du Sinaï... Mais cette tradition elle-même est réinterprétée ici dans les termes du discours philosophique occidental. Ainsi naît une autre façon de lire la Bible, et une autre manière de déchiffrer le monde, une autre manière d'y projeter un sens.
