At Proferro, the foundry of the Picanol Group, a network for the centralized logging of data and alarming was installed. This is called the SMARTnet. Extra installations were connected to the network in the scope of this master thesis. It was also attempted to solve known problems with the possibilities of the SMARTnet.The first step was looking at the properties and features of the SMARTnet. The core of the system is an industrial PC with an EtherCat network for data acquisition. De network is laid out with fiber optic cables to make it possible to overcome the greater distances on the site. The future evolution of the SMARTnet was also thought of.The biggest priority was finding a solution for the frequently breaking chain of a 550 meter long cooling circuit for castings. It is an essential part of the production line, with the consequence that a standstill has financial consequences. Multiple hypotheses were tested using extra sensors and logging.There was some research on the eight suction systems. Leeks in the filters cause emission of dust that contains iron particles, that can cause damage to the paintwork of cars. To enhance the reliability dust sensors were installed and the internal workings of the filters were analyzed.The possible advantages of the SMARTnet for the compressors and the electric supply were also looked at. In Proferro, de gieterijafdeling van de Picanol Group, werd recent een netwerk geïnstalleerd voor gecentraliseerde datalogging en alarmering. Dit werd het SMARTnet genoemd. In het kader van dit eindwerk werd het aantal installaties aangesloten op het SMARTnet uitgebreid en er werd gepoogd bestaande problemen van machines op te lossen met behulp van het SMARTnet.In eerste instantie werden de eigenschappen en mogelijkheden van het SMARTnet bekeken. De kern van het systeem is een industriële PC met een EtherCat netwerk voor data-aquisitie. Dit netwerk is bekabeld met optische vezels voor het overbruggen van de grote afstanden binnen het bedrijf. Er werd ook meegedacht over de evolutie van het SMARTnet in de toekomst.Het oplossen van de kettingbreuken van een 550 meter lang koelcircuit voor gietstukken had de grootste prioriteit. Dit is een essentieel deel van de productie met als gevolg dat stilstanden grote financiële gevolgen hebben. Met extra sensoren, testen en logging werden verschillende hypotheses over de breuken onderzocht.De acht afzuigsystemen werden ook onder de loep genomen. Lekken in de stoffilters veroorzaken een uitstoot van ijzerhoudend stof, met bijvoorbeeld lakschade aan auto's als gevolg. Er werden stofsensors na de filters geplaatst en de werking van de filters werd geanalyseerd om de bedrijfszekerheid met behulp van het SMARTnet te verhogen.Verder werd ook onderzocht welke voordelen het SMARTnet kan hebben voor de compressoren en het elektriciteitsnet.

Als doel van de thesis bij het bedrijf Unilin moet een reeds werkende wikkelmachine, die stapels omwikkelt met folie, beschikkend over een S5 PLC en oud bedieningspaneel vervangen worden door een S7 PLC van Siemens met touch panel. Dit brengt voordelen mee voor het onderhoudsteam die dan te maken heeft met een hedendaagse sturing in plaats van een verouderde. Alsook voor de machinebedieners die vlotter en efficiënter de wikkelmachine in gebruik kunnen nemen. Niet enkel werd de sturing veranderd, ook werden twee frequentieregelaars vervangen door nieuwere modellen. Één werkt als snelheidssturing, de ander als positiesturing. De nodige documentatie, van bedieningshandleidingen tot elektrische schema's, werden geactualiseerd en bijgevoegd bij het machinedossier. De grote uitdaging was om de productie niet in het gedrang te laten komen door de ombouw van de machine. Er werd ook onderzocht welke verplichtingen voldaan moeten worden in verband met veiligheid. Een risicoanalyse werd uitgevoerd en de nodige normen werden nageleefd. As an object of the thesis at the firm Unilin an active wrapping machine, which wraps packages with film, containing a S5 PLC and old function panel needed to be replaced by a Siemens S7 PLC with touch panel. This benefits the maintenance team who then deals with an up-to-date control for the wrapping machine. This also benefits the operators who then deal with a more fluent and efficient way of operating.Not only the control of the wrapping machine was changed, there was a replacement of two drives. One being a speed control, the other as a positioning control. The necessary documents, ranging from user manuals to electrical drawings, were actualized and inserted in the machine documentation.The big challenge was to revise the machine without loss of the capacity of production. There has also been researched which directives were necessary. A risk analysis was executed and the obligatory directives were respected.

Het doel van deze thesis is om de veiligheid te verbeteren van het personeel dat aan de automatische kistenlijn werkt. Deze machine werd door de ingenieurs van het bedrijf samengesteld en bestaat ondertussen drie jaar. Doordat de machine telkens werd uitgebreid hebben ze geen tijd gehad om het veiligheidsaspect te bekijken. Er werd een risicoanalyse opgesteld waaruit beslist is om een omheining te plaatsen rond deze machine. Om dit te kunnen realiseren is eerst een 3D-tekening gemaakt van de machine. Aan de hand van deze tekening was het zeer gemakkelijk om de afmetingen van de omheining te bepalen.Om de omheining te betreden moet men langs deuren passeren, deze zijn beveiligd met deursloten die enkel toegang verlenen indien de machine niet meer in werking is. De in- en uitgang van de palletten wordt gecontroleerd met een muting systeem via sensoren en lichtschermen. Om dit te kunnen realiseren is de sturing van zowel de deuren als van de muting samen geprogrammeerd in één veiligheidsplc namelijk Flexi Soft. Voor de aansluitingen van Flexi Soft werden elektrische schema's getekend in eplan.De mechanische tekening van de omheining, de elektrische schema's en de software van Flexi Soft werden overhandigd aan de bedrijfsleider van De Backer Pallets. Tot slot kan vastgesteld worden dat de automatische kistenlijn nu veiliger is voor het personeel. The purpose of this thesis is to improve the safety of the people who works at a automatic machine to produce wooden crates. This machine was build by engineers of the company, it exist for three years now. Because they try to improve their machine all the time, there wasn't time to look for the security aspect.From the results of the risk analysis there's been decided to build a fence around the machine. To realise this, a 3D-drawing of the machine has been made. The dimensions of the fence were easy to determine because of the drawing.To enter the fence you have to pass through doors, they are secured with door locks who only allow access when the machine stops working. The entrance and exit of the pallets are being controled with a muting system trough sensors and lightbeams. To realise this for the doors and the muting its been programmed togheter in one safety PLC Flexi Soft.The mechanical drawing of the fence, the electrical schematics and the software of Flexi Soft were givin to the leader of the company De Backer Pallets. At last there can be concluded that the automatic machine to produce wooden crates is a lot safer for the people who work there.
