"Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979) was a key figure in the emerging Parisian avant-garde who experimented with colour and abstraction. Throughout her long career, she combined her devotion to painting with the expansion of her artistic ideas to objects from daily life. Sonia Delaunay : Art, Design and Fashion aims to reveal her multidisciplinary practice through her paintings, her fashion and textile designs, and her collaborations with poets and theatre designers. The publication focuses in particular on the years the artist resided in Madrid during the First World War and argues that her time here represented a crucial juncture in her relationship with the applied arts."--Publisher's website. "The present exhibition aims to highlight how her time in Madrid permanently changed Sonia Delaunay. In Spain, she devoted herself with intensity to the applied arts, from clothing that she created in her Madrid workshop to the design of everyday objects, marked by her particular style centered on the overwhelming force of colour and formal experimentation."
