Abstract

Transformers in this standard are generally for larger distribution customers often with special voltages or installation requirements like convention centers with large chiller plants and extensive exhibit space. There is often a desire to serve these transformers from underground systems using side-mounted bushings on the primary. This standard seeks to define the small power transformer that is applied as more than just a limited scope version of the power transformers covered by IEEE Std C57.12.10 and as more than a large distribution class transformer covered by IEEE Std C57.12.10 and as more than a large distribution class transformer covered by IEEE Std C57.12.34.

Abstract

The evaluation and handling procedures for natural ester transformer insulating fluids are covered. The transformer operator is assisted by the purpose of the guide, which is to evaluate the serviceability of new, unused fluids being received by the equipment manufacturer or service company and fluid in new equipment. The operator is also assisted by the guide in maintaining the fluids in serviceable condition.

Abstract

Characteristics relating to performance, limited electrical and mechanical interchangeability, as well as safety of the equipment described, and to assist in the proper selection of such equipment, are set forth in this standard. Specific rating combinations are described in the range from 750/1000 kVA to 7500/10,000 kVA inclusive, with high-voltage 601 V to 34 500 V inclusive and low-voltage 208Y/120 V to 4160 V inclusive. This standard describes certain electrical and mechanical requirements and takes into consideration certain safety features of 60 Hz, two-winding, three-phase, ventilated dry-type transformers with self-cooled ratings 501 kVA and larger, which are generally used for step-down purposes. Clause 9 through Clause 11 describe other requirements or alternatives that may be specified for some applications and lists forced-air-cooled ratings for certain sizes. Keywords: ambient temperature, basic lightning impulse insulation level (BIL), construction, current transformer, dry-type, electrical, forced-air cooled, grounding, insulation level, jacking, limiting temperature, mechanical, percent impedance voltage, performance, rating, self-cooled, surge arresters, taps, temperature device, temperature rise, tests, transformer, transformer enclosure, unit substation, winding temperature.

Abstract

Provides guidance for determining the hottest-spot temperature in distribution and power transformers built in accordance with IEEE Std C57.12.00-2000. Describes the important criteriato be evaluated by any thermal model that can accurately predict the hottest-spot temperature in atransformer. Provides guidance for performing temperature-rise tests with direct measurement of the hottest-spot temperatures, and explains the importance of developing an accurate thermal model to properly locate the temperature sensors.

Abstract

This guide is intended to provide protection engineers and other readers with guidelines for protecting three-phase power transformers of more than 5 MVA rated capacity and operating at voltages exceeding 10 kV. In some cases, a user may apply the techniques described in this guide for protecting transformers of less than 5 MVA ratings or operating at voltages less than 10 kV. Information to assist protection engineers in applying properly relays and other devices to protect transformers used in transmission and distribution systems is provided in this guide. General philosophy, practical applications, and economic considerations involved in power transformer protection are discussed. Emphasis is placed on practical applications. Types of faults in transformers are described. Technical problems with the protection systems, including the behavior of current transformers during system faults, are discussed. Associated problems, such as fault clearing and reenergization, are discussed as well.

Abstract

This recommended practice provides calculation methods to conservatively evaluate the feasibility for an existing installed dry-type or liquid-filled transformer, to supply nonsinusoidal load currents as a portion of the total load. This recommended practice also provides necessary application information to assist in properly specifying a new transformer expected to carry a load, a portion of which is composed of nonsinusoidal load currents. A number of examples illustrating these methods and calculations are presented. Reference annexes provide a comparison of the document calculations to calculations found in other industry standards. Suggested temperature rise calculation methods are detailed for reference purposes.

Abstract

Wideband measurement of the apparent charge of partial discharges (PDs) that may occur in liquid-filled power transformers and shunt reactors excited by ac test voltages between 40 Hz and 400 Hz are discussed. The major components of the PD measuring circuit including the calibrator are specified in compliance with IEC 60270. The PD test procedure is described and recommendations for the evaluation of PD test results are presented.
