Ensamble Studio was founded in 2000 and is led by architects Antón García-Abril and Débora Mesa. Their practice is rooted in a fascination with the fact that architecture comes from the Earth. For thousands of years, with the extraction of metals, minerals, fibres, and soil, the process was relatively simple. Today's emerging technologies are changing this. In this monograph, the studio revisits the remains of megalithic constructions spread across the Galician landscape and speculates on what will become of modern buildings and cities in the future. It examines how they have applied their work in both urban and wild contexts, combining natural and human-made environments.

Bloquée par la Guerre civile et la dictature franquiste qui suivit, l'émergence de la modernité en Espagne a sans doute été longtemps retardée, mais de jeunes architectes rattrapent aujourd'hui le temps perdu et de la façon la plus spectaculaire. Des personnalités originales comme Cesar Manrique Cabrera avaient déjà indiqué la voie du modernisme dans les années 1960 et le travail très novateur de Ricardo Bofill dans la décennie suivante avait contribué à la réapparition de l'architecture espagnole dans le monde. Dans les années 1990, des architectes comme Rafael Moneo et Santiago Calatrava ont commencé à donner à l'architecture contemporaine en Espagne l'allure que nous lui connaissons aujourd'hui.
