Abstract

Dans l’histoire de l’architecture, la fin du XXème siècle marque la remise en question d’un mouvement architectural qui tentait de rompre avec les codifications préétablies : le modernisme. En réponse à celui-ci est né, dans les années soixante, un courant plurivoque qui se voulait son successeur : le post-modernisme.

Depuis le début des années quatre-vingt, l’architecte Charles Vandenhove, figure emblématique de l’architecture belge, est dépeint comme appartenant au courant post-moderniste. Néanmoins, la posture qu’il adopte au sein de celui-ci paraît aussi ambiguë que la délimitation rhétorique du courant lui-même. En effet, le mouvement aux contours imprécis que constitue le post-modernisme architectural semble n’être qu’une taxinomie généralisante et approximative où se retrouvent des architectures sémantiquement distantes comme celles de Robert Venturi et Leon Krier, ou encore de James Stirling et Charles Vandenhove.

De plus, si Charles Vandenhove est qualifié de post-moderniste, c’est notamment en raison des emprunts qu’il fait à l’architecture classique. Or, toutes ces références au passé semblent n’avoir ni la même valeur, ni la même tonalité chez les différents architectes du courant. Ainsi, la distinction entre les multiples postures architecturales post-modernistes peut passer par la différenciation des tonalités sous-jacentes à l’emploi de ces emprunts.

Dès lors, afin de mieux distinguer ces tonalités, il s’agit d’importer, dans le champ de l’analyse architecturale, des théories développées pour étudier la coprésence textuelle en littérature. Il est ainsi question de se servir des théories littéraires de transtextualité développées par le théoricien Gerard Genette pour différencier les ambitions rhétoriques et tonalités sémantiques sous-tendant l’utilisation d’emprunts chez les architectes post-modernistes : la colonne dans l’oeuvre de Charles Vandenhove servant de cas d’étude.

Ce travail porte donc un double objectif : d’une part, éprouver l’utilisation des théories littéraires de transtextualité dans le champ de l’analyse architecturale à travers l’étude d’un emprunt typique de l’architecture de Charles Vandenhove; d’autre part, offrir une relecture de l’oeuvre de l’architecte liégeois en vue d’en discerner la posture au sein du courant post-moderniste.

Abstract

Cette traduction Die Tage, die Ich mit Gott verbrachte d’Axel Hacke est accompagnée d’un commentaire qui aborde les stratégies employées pour recréer dans le texte cible les liens entre récit et histoire. Tout d’abord, la question du choix des temps dans le texte cible montre la manière dont il est possible de guider le lecteur dans l’attitude à adopter face aux divers événements de l’histoire. Ensuite, la section dédiée à l’énonciation aborde la traduction des diverses « voix » présentes dans Die Tage, qui tantôt éloignent, tantôt rapprochent destinataire et destinateur. Enfin, l’analyse de quelques défis traductologiques permet de mettre en évidence la créativité linguistique de l’auteur.

Abstract

La relation esthétique en général suppose une attention particulière à l'aspect d'un objet, plutôt qu'à son usage, orientée vers une appréciation positive ou négative. La relation spécifique à une oeuvre d'art suppose la reconnaissance de l'intention esthétique qui la définit comme oeuvre, et la prise en compte de sa position relative dans un champ historique et générique qui module son action. Cette relativité culturelle s'ajoute à la relativité subjective de l'appréciation, qu'elle accentue plutôt qu'elle ne l'annule. La théorie esthétique fait donc fausse route lorsqu'elle épouse l'objectivisme spontané de cette relation, qu'il convient au contraire de restituer à sa liberté, à son risque et à son plaisir.

Animal Narratology interrogates what it means to narrate, to speak—speak for, on behalf of—and to voice, or represent life beyond the human, which is in itself as different as insects, bears, and dogs are from each other, and yet more, as individual as a single mouse, horse, or puma. The varied contributions to this interdisciplinary Special Issue highlight assumptions about the human perception of, attitude toward, and responsibility for the animals that are read and written about, thus demonstrating that just as “the animal” does not exist, neither does “the human”. In their zoopoetic focus, the analyses are aware that animal narratology ultimately always contains an approximation of an animal perspective in human terms and terminology, yet they make clear that what matters is how the animal is approximated and that there is an effort to approach and encounter the non-human in the first place. Many of the analyses come to the conclusion that literary animals give readers the opportunity to expand their own points of view both on themselves and others by adopting another’s perspective to the degree that such an endeavor is possible. Ultimately, the contributions call for a recognition of the many spaces, moments, and modes in which human lives are entangled with those of animals—one of which is located within the creative bounds of storytelling.
