Cette réédition du numéro spécial de la revue française d'avant-garde L'Architecture Vivante, est augmentée de trois articles introductifs qui permettent de comprendre :- les conditions de la redécouverte de cette icône dans les années 1970 ;- le contexte de sa conception et les motivations de Le Corbusier lorsqu'il appose ses peintures murales ;- les choix techniques qui dérivent des contraintes du chantier. Attentive à préserver une dimension poétique et une éthique humaniste dans la conduite de son travail, Eileen Gray nous livre avec E.1027 un témoignage rare et précieux du rêve moderne de l'oeuvre d'art totale. ans le cadre des commémorations du cinquantenaire de la disparition de Le Corbusier, le site Cap Martin où se trouvent le cabanon et les unités de camping de Le Corbusier ainsi que la villa E1027 réalisée par Eileen Gray et Jean Badovici ouvre au public (inauguration 26 juin 2015).C'est dans ce contexte que les éditions Imbernon ont décidé de publier sous forme reliée avec une couverture souple à rabat et en version bilingue anglais/français, ce titre de leur catalogue E.1027 Maison en bord de mer, publié en 2006 et aujourd'hui épuisé dans sa version portfolio (fac-similé de L'Architecture vivante 1929).

Women Architects in the Modern Movement rewrites the history of modern architecture to elevate the often-overlooked female architects who helped build the movement. Starting with a theoretical analysis that situates women’s roles both in society and architecture specifically, Carmen Espegel examines the transition from women as objects to subjects at the advent of modernity. This theoretical basis is grounded through four case studies on pioneering women architects: Eileen Gray, Lilly Reich, Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky and Charlotte Perriand. Along with illuminating their lives and work, Espegel aims to help us examine and observe the world from a perspective where the feminine and masculine are not exclusive, so that we might learn from the past in order to build with dignity in the future.
