The objective of this master’s thesis is to identify the potential of blockchain technology for oper-ational risk management in high reliability organizations (HROs).
The theory section examines why the pharmaceutical industry, which has not previously been regarded as an HRO, can be considered an HRO. Furthermore, a systematic literature review for the HRO areas healthcare and pharmaceutical is conducted to identify the blockchain applications for operational risk management there.
In the empirical section, the operational risk of counterfeit drugs identified from the literature review and the potential of blockchain are discussed in the form of three expert interviews. For this purpose, the expert opinion is obtained from the Lead Counterfeit Protection from Bayer AG, the PharmaLedger Project Leader from Novartis AG, and the Supply Chain Excellence representative from MSD who is contributing to the EU-funded PharmaLedger project, too.
The results of this work show that the HRO theory can be extended to the pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, 52 blockchain applications for operational risk management in the HROs healthcare and pharmaceutical are identified in the literature review. The result of the empirical section is that the pharmaceutical industry is working on further blockchain solutions in addition to the blockchain applications for the operational risk of counterfeits drugs.
Further research is needed to confirm the pharmaceutical industry as an HRO and to elaborate the potential of blockchain for operational risk management in other HROs.

Dans un monde qui compte 7,8 milliards d’habitants, 4,9 milliards de personnes utilisent Internet fréquemment. Google, moteur de recherche le plus utilisé avec 87,96% des parts du marché mondial, traiterait plus de 3,5 milliards de recherches par jour (BroadbandSearch.net, s. d.).
En 2022, Internet n’est plus un outil de communication mineur et joue un rôle fondamental dans la communication de l’information, tant pour les particuliers que pour les entreprises. En 2017, 43% des entreprises françaises spécialisées, scientifiques ou techniques utilisaient les réseaux sociaux pour communiquer leur proposition de valeur (Statista, 2018).
La gestion de la présence en ligne est aujourd’hui primordiale et les entreprises ne doivent pas se demander si cette présence est nécessaire, mais comment celle-ci doit s’articuler, sous peine d’être dépassées par d’autres entreprises plus modernes.
Dans ce cadre précis, définir une stratégie de marketing digital pertinente est indispensable pour toute entreprise.
Fondée en 1993, AIP Medical est une entreprise du secteur des soins de santé active dans la fabrication et la distribution de sutures et autres dispositifs médicaux à usage vétérinaire. Un audit réalisé en 2021 avait pointé du doigt les lacunes de l’entreprise en ce qui concerne sa présence en ligne. L’entreprise avait donc besoin de savoir dans quelle mesure le marketing digital pouvait être intéressant pour développer sa notoriété et augmenter indirectement ses ventes.
Ce travail se compose de trois parties :
La première analyse les aspects théoriques liés aux PMEs, au secteur des soins de santé, au marketing au sens large ainsi qu’au marketing digital et la manière dont une stratégie de marketing digital doit s’articuler.
La deuxième partie synthétise la méthodologie utilisée pour évaluer l’intérêt d’utiliser certains leviers du marketing digital.
La troisième partie vise à présenter les résultats obtenus lors de l’analyse et d’en débattre dans la partie « discussion » afin de suggérer des pistes pertinentes pour la mise en place d’une future stratégie de marketing digital au sein de l’entreprise. In 2022, the Internet is no longer a minor communication tool and plays a fundamental role in the communication of information for both individuals and businesses. In 2017, 43% of French specialized, scientific or technical companies used social networks to communicate their value proposition (Statista, 2018).
Managing one's online presence is paramount today and companies should not ask themselves if this presence is necessary but how it should be articulated, or else they will be overtaken by other more modern companies.
In this context, defining a relevant digital marketing strategy is essential for any company.
Founded in 1993, AIP Medical is a healthcare company active in the manufacture and distribution of sutures and other medical devices for veterinary use. An audit conducted in 2021 had pointed out the company's shortcomings in terms of its online presence. The company therefore needed to know to what extent digital marketing could be interesting to develop its notoriety and indirectly increase its sales.
This work consists of three parts:
The first one focuses on the theoretical aspects related to SMEs, the healthcare sector, marketing in a broad sense as well as digital marketing and how a digital marketing strategy should be articulated.
The second part summarizes the methodology used to evaluate the interest of using certain digital marketing levers.
The third part will present the results obtained during the analysis and will debate them in the "discussion" part to suggest relevant tracks for the implementation of a future digital marketing strategy within the company.
