Dit boek wil afgestomptheid bevechten door zeven vrouwenportretten te schetsen. Daarin wordt aandacht besteed zowel aan het geschreven werk als aan het publieke optreden van vrouwen die zich verzet hebben tegen de vele gedaanten van totalitaire terreur: nazisme, zionisme, imperialisme, moslimfundamentalisme, apartheid, globalisme. Dat verzet uit zich in acties van burgerlijke ongehoorzaamheid, in een vlijmscherpe kritiek van de door heersers gebruikte retoriek en in een onverzettelijk pleidooi voor vrijheid en rechtvaardigheid.
