Abstract

This book covers some well-known and some unexplored pathological aspects of management of peritoneal metastases and should be read by both surgeons and pathologists involved in the management of peritoneal surface malignancies. The evaluation of cytoreductive surgery specimens is explored for the prognostic information it can provide and recommendations for evaluation of such specimens are provided. The pathways and patterns of peritoneal dissemination and their clinical implications on the extent of surgery performed and other aspects of management are discussed for some common peritoneal tumours. The exploratory studies presented here provide a new perspective on the surgical resection of peritoneal metastases. Other important aspects of pathological evaluation like pathological response to chemotherapy, diagnosis and classification of rare peritoneal tumors have also been covered in different chapters. Keeping in sync with the progress in molecular oncology, the role of molecular oncology in the current and future management of peritoneal metastases is addressed for different tumors. .

Abstract

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a group of clonal disorders characterized by pancytopenias and the risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia. The diagnosis of MDS can be challenging, while the outcomes of MDS patients vary widely. This book provides a concise yet comprehensive overview of MDS. The book begins by reviewing the diagnostic workup of MDS, with a specific focus on the 2016 WHO criteria for MDS diagnosis, and the biology and pathophysiology of the disease. The text then presents the molecular landscape of MDS and its impact on disease diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment decisions. The book continues by profiling different prognostic models of MDS and concludes with a thorough review of treatment algorithms for lower and higher-risk MDS, as well as the use of hematopoietic stem cell transplant to combat the disease. Written by experts in the field, Diagnosis and Management of Myelodysplastic Syndromes: A Clinical Guide is a valuable resource for clinicians, practitioners, and researchers who are interested in MDS. The text also features over 100 illustrations, photographs, and tables. .

Abstract

A continuously evolving technique, immunotherapy for the treatment of cancers now incorporates the use of immune cells infused during bone marrow transplants as well as approaches like cell and gene therapy, while stem cell-based therapies, tissue engineering, and targeting have also contributed to the latest successes in pre-clinical immunotherapy studies. In Immunotherapy of Cancer: Methods and Protocols, expert researchers in the field describe detailed procedures for trainees and experts in the area of basic, clinical science who wish to undertake their own cutting-edge immunotherapy studies. In addition to the protocols, the volume also contains two general overviews providing useful updates in each area as well as summaries of recent pre-clinical and clinical trials. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology™ series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and notes on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and up-to-date, Immunotherapy of Cancer: Methods and Protocols seeks to guide scientists along the path to a further developed system of immunotherapeutic treatments in order to reduce and hopefully eradicate this terrible disease.

Abstract

The book is dedicated to Follicular lymphoma and Mantle cell lymphoma and highlights major reference works that contributed significantly to the understanding of these two lymphomas. The aim is to bring the basic science adjacent to the applied science. There is significant focus on the biology of normal B cell development that forms the basis for understanding the pathobiology of these entities. This text is designed to provide a concise yet comprehensive summary of traditional and newer entities, prognostic markers, pathobiology and newer classifications based on molecular genetics/chromosomal abnormalities. The chapters are written by practicing hematopathologists, molecular pathologists, dermatopathologists and clinical haematologists with an emphasis on practical approaches to these entities. The newer technologies and their practical applications are elaborated in an easy-to-comprehend format. Follicular Lymphoma and Mantle Cell Lymphoma is an approachable read for residents and fellows and clinically relevant to practicing pathologists and hematologists. It also serves as a valuable resource for anyone with an interest in B cell lymphomas. .
