This book considers studies related to the bone graft materials used for bone regeneration in dental and medical areas, and particularly studies on new development and development directions, such as synthetic bone and heterologous bone. Bone regeneration is one of the most important challenges in medicine. Previously, patients' autologous bones were collected and transplanted for bone regeneration, but this had many limitations. Many researchers are currently developing a method that surpasses the bone regeneration ability of an autologous bone, via the use of artificial bone or heterologous bone. By developing and commercializing more functional, more efficient graft materials, both medical standards and patients' quality of life will be improved. This book reflects some of the related studies, but its greatest contribution to the field is its suggestions for future research and possible developments in this area.

Bone grafting is the surgical procedure in which new bone (bone graft) or a replacement material (graft substitute), is placed into bone fractures or bone defects to aid in healing. Bone grafting is in the field of interest of many surgical specialties, such as: orthopedics, neurosurgery, dentistry, plastic surgery, head and neck surgery, otolaryngology and others. In common, all these specialties have to handle problems concerning the lack of bone tissue or impaired fracture healing. There is a myriad of surgical techniques nowadays involving some kind of bone graft or bone graft substitute. This book gathers authors from different continents, with different points of view and different experiences with bone grafting. Leading researchers of Asia, America and Europe have contributed as authors. In this book, the reader can find chapters from the ones on basic principles, devoted to students, to the ones on research results and description of new techniques, experts will find very beneficial.

This book describes succinctly the factors which affect the incorporation of massive and morsellised allografts after transplantation. Unless special precautions are taken, massive allografts when implanted can undergo stress fatigue, due to the limited incorporation at the graft-host interface. Immunological and cell signalling growth factors can be shown to greatly influence the behaviour of the graft. The bone-biological processes are illustrated in terms of demineralised bone, which can initiate bone induction due to the protection and availability of the original bone-morphogenic protein.

This valuable book presents clinical experiences and research of bone grafting. Bone grafting is an essential technique practiced by craniofacial, maxillofacial, orthopedic, neuro, reconstructive and oral surgeons. Bone grafting can be used for reconstruction and restoring missing bone in trauma and tumor surgery of the facial bone or in road traffic accidents with multiple injuries and in post-traumatic missile war injuries to the face or limbs. Bone grafts, in the form of Kummoona Chondro-Ossous graft or Costo-Chondral graft, are used for reconstruction of damage TMJ for restoration of growth, function, and repair. Bone grafting is a surgical procedure where the iliac crest or rib or tibia is used to perform grafting. In this book, we examine the experimental studies on rabbits to understand the cellular changes associated with bone grafting. From this, we noticed that mesenchymal stem cells and growth factor are released from platelets and these play an important role in healing the bone graft. We recommend this valuable book to all cranio-maxillofacial, orthopedic, plastic, reconstructive, neuro and oral surgeons and to all postgraduate students studying bone grafting.

The bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) is a special growth factor for the induction of new bone formation. Today, the extract of the BMP originating from bone tissue as well as genetically modified BMPs, particularly BMP-2 and -7, can be used.Though the BMP as an implant is as yet an unregistered drug or medical tool in Europe and the US, specialists are confident that it will obtain final government approval based on the results of clinical tests conducted on more than 3000 patients. This important book focuses mainly on the clinical BMP treatment of patients - namely in orthopaedic cases (fract
