Die vorliegende Publikation befasst sich mit der Malerei der Frühen Neuzeit unter dem Aspekt ihres kommunikativen Gebrauchs. Im Unterschied zur Moderne herrschte in der Frühneuzeit das Ideal einer geselligen spielerischen Kunstrezeption, bei der die Werke in und durch konversationsrhetorische Sprachkunst übersetzt und kommentiert wurden. Mit Blick auf fortschreitende Autonomisierungsprozesse untersucht Wolfgang Brassat an ausgewählten Beispielen vom Quattrocento bis zur französischen und englischen Kunst des 18. Jahrhunderts, wie Künstler z.B. durch rekursive und selbstreflexive Verfahren, rätselhafte und mehrdeutige Bildelemente, das Durchkreuzen etablierter Darstellungskonventionen und Infragestellen des tradierten Kunstbegriffs das Gespräch über ihr Werk und die Künste anregten. The present publication deals with the communicative use of painting during the early modern period. In contrast to modernism, the early modern period was characterized by the ideal of a sociable, playful reception of art, in which works were translated and commented on in and through conversational rhetorical language. With a view to progressive processes of art becoming autonomous, Wolfgang Brassat uses selected examples from the quattrocento to French and English art of the 18th century to investigate how artists stimulated conversation about their work and the arts through recursive and selfreflexive procedures, enigmatic and ambiguous pictorial elements, the thwarting of established representational conventions, and the questioning of the traditional concept of art.

Leviathan, a manifestation of one of the oldest monsters in recorded history (3rd millennium BCE), and its sidekick, Behemoth, have been the object of centuries of suppression throughout the millennia. Originally cosmic, terrifying creatures who represented disorder and chaos, they have been converted into the more palatable crocodile and hippo by biblical scholars today. However, among the earliest Jews (and Muslims) and possibly Christians, these creatures occupied a significant place in creation and redemption history. Before that, they formed part of a backstory that connects the Bible with the wider ancient Near East. When examining the reception history of these fascinating beasts, several questions emerge. Why are Jewish children today familiar with these creatures, while Christian children know next to nothing about them? Why do many modern biblical scholars follow suit and view them as minor players in the grand scheme of things? Conversely, why has popular culture eagerly embraced them, assimilating the words as symbols for the enormous? More unexpectedly, why have fundamentalist Christians touted them as evidence for the cohabitation of dinosaurs and humans?

Die in den Kulturwissenschaften intensiv geführte Debatte um Weltliteratur kreist immer wieder um Fragen des Prozess- und Konstruktionscharakters weltliterarischer Kanonisierung. Um Aufschluss darüber zu erhalten, welche Faktoren dazu beitragen, ob ein Autor oder eine Autorin als Weltliteratur kanonisiert wird, ist die Arbeit am konkreten Material von zentraler Bedeutung. Die vorliegende Studie widmet sich in diesem Zusammenhang insbesondere den Bruchstellen, die anhand der verzögerten Weltliteratur-Werdung der brasilianischen Autorin Clarice Lispector (1920-1977) anhand von Dokumenten zu Übersetzungs- und Zirkulationsprozessen sichtbar werden. Erst im 21. Jahrhundert erfährt das literarische Werk Lispectors breite internationale Anerkennung, nachdem es zuvor immer wieder in Vergessenheit geraten war. Welche Rolle spielte dabei das brasilianische Portugiesisch als Ausgangssprache, welche die so eigene Ästhetik Clarice Lispectors im Übersetzungskontext und welche ihre Rolle als Frau? In der Analyse des komplexen Zusammenwirkens solcher Faktoren ermöglicht der Band eine neue Perspektive auf die Problematiken weltliterarischer Kanonisierungsprozesse im 20. und beginnenden 21. Jahrhundert. It has only been in the 21st century that the literary oeuvre of the Brazilian author Clarice Lispector (1920-1977) has received international recognition, after being repeatedly forgotten in the past. This volume traces its belated transformation into world literature using specific materials from the history of Lispector's translation and reception, providing a new perspective on the problems of canonization in the field of world literature.

Der Band versammelt 17 Beiträge des bereits verstorbenen Judaisten Günter Mayer (1936-2004) und des Tübinger Neutestamentlers Michael Tilly, seines langjährigen Mitarbeiters. Das breite Spektrum an Themen aus dem Bereich des hellenistischen und rabbinischen Judentums umfasst u.a. This volume compiles 17 articles by the late Jewish scholar Günter Mayer (1936–2004) and his life-long collaborator, the Tübingen New Testament scholar Michael Tilly. Auf Grundlage einer synchronen Lektüre des Sacharjabuches in seiner hebräischen Textgestalt sowie intertextueller Bezüge inner- und außerhalb des Dodekapropheton werden verschiedene Rezeptionsvorgänge untersucht. Diese zeigen sich literar- und redaktionskritisch innerhalb des hebräischen Kanons sowie im Vergleich mit dem griechischen Text. Exemplarisch werden Aufnahmen im Neuen Testament, bei den Kirchenvätern sowie im frühen Judentum behandelt. Based on a synchronous reading of the Book of Zechariah in its Hebrew textual structure as well as intertextual references within and outside the Book of the Twelve, the study examines diverse processes of reception. These are reflected in literary and redactional criticism within the Hebrew canon and also in comparison with the Greek text. Examples include citations in the New Testament, by the Fathers of the Church, and in early Judaism.
