Abstract

Abstract

The ancient Chinese philosophy of Taoism contains profound wisdom about the cosmos, nature, human life, and education. Taoism seeks to be in harmony with nature, and using it as a guide can help us live in a way that is healing to both ourselves and the planet. Taoism, Teaching, and Learning identifies key aspects of Taoist thought and highlights how these principles can promote a holistic approach to teaching and learning. In particular, this book offers educators guidelines and pedagogical examples for how to instil a perspective of interconnectedness into their classrooms. It sheds light on how philosophical Taoism articulates a vision of the universe and life that mirrors the actual realities of nature. Providing frameworks and methods for teaching and learning based on the interconnectedness of life, Taoism, Teaching, and Learning develops an inspiring vision for education and helps us to see our world in a deeply holistic and meaningful way.

Abstract

As a history teacher it is important to acquire a meaningful understanding of what constitutes history, how historical knowledge is developed, and how historical learning and teaching of young people can succeed. Since these assumptions influence history teaching, it is necessary for teachers to reconsider their epistemological concepts and approaches while training to become a history teacher. The present study analyses the effects of teacher training on Swiss-German prospective history teachers’ epistemological beliefs, as well as on their assumptions about learning and teaching by applying quantitative methods of survey analysis. The results underline the importance of courses in history and history didactics for the formation of students’ concepts. The analysis does, however, also reveals that teacher training in German-speaking Switzerland may also lead to beliefs that are not necessarily defined as goals of higher education in history. Based on survey answers, a qualitative in-depth study with experienced teachers underlines the importance of beliefs for the design of history classes. Furthermore, the use of their assumptions for teaching is also influenced by the pedagogical content knowledge and other concepts (e.g. about learners) of the teachers. On the one hand, the results illustrate the effectiveness of future history teachers’ training courses, but on the other hand, they also underpin the need to discuss the design of higher education training for history teachers.

Abstract

This book highlights the design of an educational module for an innovative intensive program. The theme is very relevant in the contemporary approach to teaching activities. In fact, thanks to the didactic design, it is possible to obtain a strong relationship between teachers and learners, as required by the Bologna Process. It also allows a stronger definition of learning outcomes. After a general excursus on the subject, the manuscript refers to a recent experience carried out in the Aeolian Island for the Erasmus + Programme, called VVITA. In it, an international group of students and teachers spent a period in the Aeolian Islands, to focus on the features of local vernacular architecture. The attention has been addressed to the Aeolian House, which is a wonderful example of ante litteram sustainable architecture. On the island of Filicudi, one of the most beautiful of the archipelago, it has preserved its characteristics intact. The book is completed by teachers’ lectures and students’ final reports.

Abstract

The majority of professors have never had a formal course in education, and the most common method for learning how to teach is on-the-job training. This represents a challenge for disciplines with ever more complex subject matter, and a lost opportunity when new active learning approaches to education are yielding dramatic improvements in student learning and retention. This book aims to cover all aspects of teaching engineering and other technical subjects. It presents both practical matters and educational theories in a format useful for both new and experienced teachers. It is organized to start with specific, practical teaching applications and then leads to psychological and educational theories. The "practical orientation" section explains how to develop objectives and then use them to enhance student learning, and the "theoretical orientation" section discusses the theoretical basis for learning/teaching and its impact on students. Written mainly for PhD students and professors in all areas of engineering, the book may be used as a text for graduate-level classes and professional workshops or by professionals who wish to read it on their own. Although the focus is engineering education, most of this book will be useful to teachers in other disciplines. Teaching is a complex human activity, so it is impossible to develop a formula that guarantees it will be excellent. However, the methods in this book will help all professors become good teachers while spending less time preparing for the classroom. This is a new edition of the well-received volume published by McGraw-Hill in 1993. It includes an entirely revised section on the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and new sections on the characteristics of great teachers, different active learning methods, the application of technology in the classroom (from clickers to intelligent tutorial systems), and how people learn.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This book is an adaptation of a research presented at the University for Andean Development (Huancavelica - Peru), whose objective was to describe the relationship between the "puchka" as a technique and manual eye development in preschool children, demonstrating as the "puchka" intervenes in the development of certain manual eye coordination exercises in the I.E.P of Initial "Corazón de Jesús" -Lircay (Peru). The “puchka” is a spinning technique. This technique, in its execution and application, allows developing hand-eye coordination in children. The performance of certain exercises and fine psychomotor movements involve the eyes, hands, fingers and other aspects in certain manual eye coordination exercises that serve to initiate pre-writing and instruct in cognitive development, abilities, skills and others. The "puchka" is an ancient art that the ancient Peruvians have passed from generation to generation, allowing them to make beautiful cloaks and other pieces of fascinating cultural expression. The study is applied type and descriptive level. The result showed that, through the use of the "puchka" as a technique, manual eye development in children was improved, as stated in the main hypothesis of the project. The results can be used by the teachers of the Educational Institutions of the initial level in the realization of their activities related to the development of the manual eye coordination, since it will also favor the development of writing, strokes, molding, painting. , etc. Another aspect that must be taken into account is that it helps improve preschool care, as it is a more appropriate technique, since it is part of our socio-cultural environment.
