De Pools-Vlaamse filosofe en schrijfster Alicja Gescinska schreef voor de Maand van de Filosofie 2020 een essay over het thema daarvan: waarheid, of liever – door haar blik –: waarachtigheid. Mooi en helder ontvouwt zij de redenen die tot de teloorgang van waarheid hebben geleid, vanaf het moment dat de godin Apate uit de doos van Pandora ontsnapte en misleiding en bedrog in de wereld kwamen, tot de 'post-truth', alternatieve feiten en nepnieuws van nu. Als hoofdverantwoordelijken daarvoor wijst ze aan: het postmodernistisch relativisme, de analytische taalfilosofie, het einde van het expertisme, intrinsieke mankementen van de liberale democratie en het idee dat liegen loont. De auteur zoekt weerstand in uiterlijke en innerlijke waarachtigheid, oprechtheid en authenticiteit tegenover jezelf en anderen. Hierbij doet ze enkele boude uitspraken, die een smet op het essay vormen als je ze tot het eind zou doordenken. De bedoeling is dat in filosofie geïnteresseerde lezers komen tot een zinvol, waardevol en moreel te verantwoorden leven in vrijheid. De uitgave is voorzien van een literatuurlijst en eindnoten.

This volume gives an introduction to William Ockham's theory of signs, his ontology, his epistemology, and the interrelations between these fields. Some recent results of analytic philosophy turn out to be useful instruments for the interpretation of Ockham's thought. Part one contains a presentation of the basic concepts of Ockham's semantics. It is followed by an investigation of his ontology, including a comparison with modern ontology. Part three deals with the common and different elements in the conceptions of supposition and of quantification. Part four shows some similarities of Ockham's views on the truth of sentences with those of Davidson. The final part presents Ockham's epistemology within the discussion of his contemporaries and confronts it with actual issues raised by Quine and Putnam.
