"In the earliest extant works of Greek literature, Zeus reigns supreme in the Olympian hierarchy. However, scattered and scanty though they may be, there are allusions to threats of rebellion which challenge Zeus' supremacy. This book examines these passages, drawn from Homer, Hesiod and the "Homeric Hymns", to offer some new interpretations. While focusing on the theme of cosmic/divine strife, it becomes clear that hints of lost legends underlie these texts. Tracing their hidden logic helps to improve our understanding of early Greek poetry."--Bloomsbury Publishing In the earliest extant works of Greek literature, Zeus reigns supreme in the Olympian hierarchy. The goddess Hera is represented in mythology as an irascible wife and imperfect mother in the face of a frivolous Zeus. Beginning with the Iliad, many narrative traditions depict her wrath, the infidelities of her royal husband and the persecutions to which she subjects his illegitimate offspring. But how to relate this image to the cults of the sovereign goddess in her sanctuaries across Greece? This book uses the Hera of Zeus to open up new perspectives for understanding the society of the gods, the fate of heroes and the lives of men. As the intimate enemy of Zeus but also the fierce guardian of the legitimacy and integrity of the Olympian family, she takes shape in more subtle and complex ways that make it possible to rethink the configuration of power in ancient Greece, with the tensions that inhabited it, and thus how polytheism works.

This book and DVD package features profiles of and interviews with the most influential street artists including Banksy, os gêmeos, Invader, Barnstormers, WK Interact, Zevs and André. Street art pioneers Futura, Ramm:ell:zee and Blek Le Rat discuss their own work, and how street art has become a recognized art form born out of the days of subway train graffiti, spraypainting and tagging. The book also introduces Agnès B and other behind-the-scenes players of this new art movement. Filmed in New York, London, Paris, São Paulo and Tokyo, the accompanying documentary shows the artists'street savvy survival tactics and their work in action: Zevs practising his 'Visual Attacks' on advertising billboards, Blek le Rat sticking up outsized stencils, os gêmeos painting their lyrical, folklore-inspired murals and Invader putting up his unique mosaic wall-tile images.
